The Hostelz.com Review
From the moment of arrival, The Last Resort is something special. It's like walking into someone's home, from the front door leading into the well-equipped and clean (but modest) kitchen, and opening into the living room which is well-stocked with couches, coffee tables, TV, VCR, DVD player, and a gigantic collection of movies to choose from. There is also a dining table and fireplace in the homely room, and it feels like sitting down at the kitchen table back at your own house. The owner is very trusting of his guests, and happy to help with your stay, in the hostel, and advising and booking your activities in town. Oh, and it comes with a gorgeous and friendly resident dog.

The location is fantastic, right by the center, and a pleasant walk into the busy area, and just around the right corners to be away from the noise. It's on the Southeast corner of Man/Memorial Street and Camp Street, behind a small red picket fence.

Bathrooms are clean if simple. Rooms are nothing spectacular but are clean and seem to be made with love. We even had nametags, towels, and hot water bottles waiting for us on our neatly-made beds when we arrived. It is doubtful that cleanliness or attention to facilities would ever be a real issue at this place, because this is one hostel that feels way more like a stop-over at a friend's home than a thank-you-for-your-money business. It isn't a place you'll come to have a rip-roaring party late into the night, but if you want a comfortable, friendly, quiet place to crash, The Last Resort should be anything but.

5 Home in a stunning location
Excellent in pretty much every way. It was like being at a friend's house, cosy in the winter, and the staff are fantastic. It was good enough that I didn't even want to go outside and in a place like Queenstown that's pretty impressive!

5 That hostel is very small, I think it has about eighteen dorm beds, and extremely cosy. It's in a great location just close to the main street, you have free internet and get a free breakfast. It's one of the best hostels I have ever been in.

5 Loving this place, I was here for two weeks over Christmas and New Year and had the best time, I went away for a week and then came back for another six nights. It's clean and tidy, with free breakfast, comfy beds, and a great atmosphere. I met loads of great people here and it's really good if you're traveling on your own. Love Cocco the dog, who will always keep you company if there's no one around!

5 This was one of the nicest and homiest hostels I have stayed at in NZ. To be fair, I felt like I was staying at a clean and tidy student house. The hostel itself is small, but I found it much easier to meet people this way, especially thanks to the well-stocked dvd collection! Coco the dog was also a great companion round the place -- if you're lucky, you'll hear her howling at the fire siren! The free breakfast is great too, loads of stuff was included -- even cereal, which is a refreshing change from the one moldy slice of bread other hostels call their "free" breakfast. I most definitely recommend this place!

5 I stayed here in June for 2 weeks and found it almost impossible to leave! Best hostel ever. Phil the owner is a top guy who makes you feel so at home. The hostel has so much character and such a warm friendly atmosphere. You couldn't want anything more! Hello to Phil and Coco if you read this! Tasha and Alena (Burton-on-Trent — England)

5 This is the best hostel I've stayed at in my 17-month trip around New Zealand and Oz. Coco the dog is adorable, and facilities are excellent.

5 Not that I'd want to decrease my chances of getting a bed should I return to Queenstown in the near future, but I feel the need to state that this place is a pleasure to stay in and convenient in every way. It's also a comfortable enough environment with which to relax and meet people. Highly recommended.
