5 Home away from home -- one of the very best!
The most friendly and accommodating hosts in New Zealand. We stayed in three-share room for two nights which was warm and really cosy and excellent value for money. The facilities are also comfortable with a well equipped kitchen and free jelly babies! By far the best feature are the hosts, with their extensive knowledge as to the wineries and the bike hire for guests (free?), they really made our trip.

4 This is a good hostel, made great by the owners who couldn't be more helpful. It is right in the middle of the wineries and you can hire bikes from the hostel for $10 for the day, and they will advise you on which wineries are open. The dorm room was quite small but the communal area was large. The facilities were all fine and there was breakfast provided.

5 Paul and his wife provide excellent accommodation. My wife and I travelled all around New Zealand and this was by far the best place we stayed at. We booked for one day, and had such a great time in Renwick that we stayed another. Breakfast was provided, and the neighbourhood pubs provided more than enough entertainment at night. Nothing funnier than seeing 6"4 giant men in stubbies and gumboots. Make sure you hire bicycles from Paul and tour all the vineyards. For a top notch lunch visit Highfield Estate. Very classy food. Thanks Paul!

5 I am sorry not to have commented on this place at an earlier date. I stayed there in Oct., 2002, my last night on the South Island. It would appear this place is used by a lot of transient workers in the local vineyards, but that is not a drawback. I chose to camp in my tent that night in the yard, but used the beautiful kitchen. Paul Watson and his wife have created a lovely hostel with nice furnishings, kitchen, and dinnerware and the rooms looked cozy. It was one of the most sociable evenings I ever spent in a hostel. As I was about to leave in my car in the morning, Mr. Watson came out to shake my hand and bid me farewell. A class act!

5 I recently stayed two nights here (June 2005) and it was the best hostel I stayed in on the South Island! It is clean, friendly, comfortable, and actually has a "hot" shower!!! It was also the cheapest hostel I stayed in, which is amazing given the facilities on offer and that the hostel is quite new. Each room is also named after one of the owner's children...how cute?!
