The Hostelz.com Review
Location, location, location. Cinema Hostel I (also known as Huéspedes Amanda) is literally in the heart of Madrid, amongst the hustle and bustle of Gran Vía. Only minutes from the metro station, this hostel offers a great location with comfortable rooms. If you can see beyond their supposed cinema theme, which is most evident in the movie posters and somewhat random cinema paraphernalia throughout the hostel, you´ll find the amenities quite nice and clean. Literally only a few minutes walk to Sol, the Plaza Mayor, and many other attractions, this hostel will provide any traveler with a place to sleep well (if you can swing a room whose windows face the courtyard) and explore the city.

The staff of the hostel is very accommodating -- they will help you with any of your needs and even have a computer in the lobby for internet use. Breakfast is served daily in the communal kitchen, which is usually just some toast and coffee. One of the best features of this hostel is that most rooms have their own common room with television to watch as much cinema as you can handle. Also, their rooms have at most four beds which allows for a more intimate feeling and better security. Madrid´s amazing metro system will drop you at the Gran Vía station which is only a few minutes walk to the hostel, which is on the first floor (not ground, one up from ground level).

Although there are not a ton of facilities in this hostel, it is still very comfortable. Some rooms have private bathrooms, but the best deals are obviously those with shared showers and toilets. The lobby is quite small and only fits their computer and couch for guests, but it has a quite homey feel. There are no lockers in the rooms to store your belongings, but there are closets provided which allows you to at least put some of your belongings away. As with most hostels in the center of Madrid, this hostel is located in a very old building with a decent amount of history. Some of the details around the rooms could use some updating, but it´s got a more historic feel than a dirty one. If you´re looking for a hostel that´s a great value and offers comfortable rooms in the heart of Madrid, this is definitely a hostel to consider.

Not the worst, not the best
This place is noisy! I had one of the rooms that face the Fuencarral and if you're not really tired, you won't have a restful sleep. the spanish never give it up! the lady who was on the reception desk spoke barely any english, and i speak no spanish, so that was interesting, however, it was all sorted out! she was very nice. the other younger guy speaks english. they have someone on reception twenty-four hours so you can always come back in, but you do get locked out, you just have to buzz them. kinda daunting when you first see the place, it has a makeshift sign outside and also inside, so you're wondering where the hell it is your staying. I had an eight-bed dorm, and it was pretty crowded, but the people in there were cool, so it was ok. it got cleaned every day. i didn't go down for breakfast as i slept in every day (because you need your sleep, since you get none at night!). it's in a really good location, right near the metro and you can walk to all the major sites. the bathroom i used was clean, and very spacey (it was a bath/shower with a toilet, sink, and mirror) and it was just for the girls (though i'm sure guys would use it at some stage). the place is a bit rundown, but not in a way that makes you fear for your things. there are no lockers though, which is no good. they have small lockers, which can hold your wallet/passport, at reception, and internet as well, which they don't seem to police that strictly (its 1 euro i think for thirty minutes). this place is fine to stay, but if you're looking for rest, then i'd go somewhere else. its not bad, but its also not good. the kitchen is a bit dodgy but they have most of the utensils you need. its a bit daunting, but once you get in, it's really fine.

I was there for 7 nights. Lots of noise from the street during the night!!! It had a very small W.C. (lavatory) and bath, lots of smoking, and a not very clean kitchen. Breakfast was only toast and coffee. I can't recommend it!!!

This is a nice hostel and it's close to the city center. There are only two bathrooms though, with the showers and toilets together, which can mean a long queue in the morning if you're not up early. The free toast and spreads, and free coffee for breakfast was much appreciated. I stayed here in winter and it was incredibly well heated.

I stayed there for a night. It's an okay place to spend a night; they have a kitchen and a DVD player. When I was there, there was no breakfast in the morning, I guess because the night/morning shift was busy sleeping on the sofa beside the reception. So when I checked out at 10 a.m., it was no go on coffee or anything else. With a place like that, you can do better. The TV in the room is a plus when you don't know what to do with yourself in Madrid. The washing machine was used to store potatoes.
