Kinlay House Cork is like a rabbit warren, a maze, or a labyrinth -- be careful you don't get lost in the halls in this hostel. We didn't have a very nice experience here. The staff (actually, the owner) is incredibly rude and the beds are horrible. On the other hand, there are good things about the hostel, too.
There is a very large kitchen with more burners than most restaurants! They have heaps of plates and utensils and plenty of room for you whip up your culinary delights. Breakfast is provided in the morning (toast, jam, juice, tea, and coffee). There is also a large dining area with plenty of room for everyone to sit and enjoy their meal. The hostel has a spacious TV room and several computers with internet access. There are enough toilets and showers for everyone and while the showers are a little small, they are hot. Aside from the owner, the other staff are friendly and helpful. Maybe we caught the owner on a bad day.
The dorms have sixteen beds that shake and squeak like no others we have seen. Using the ladder to get to the top bunk actually lifts the bunk beds up onto two legs! The rooms have coded entry but that is the only form of security in the hostel. There isn't enough space to store big backpacks if the dorm is full, and even though they provide space for people to leave backpacks on the day of their checkout, there is no security for these bags (anyone can open the door). If you stay here, make sure you have locks for your bags and don't roll over in your sleep.
