The accomodation itself is pretty good. However, the 4x4s used for the trips on to fraser island are very old and some dont even have a working four wheel drive gears! This isnt the most useful situation when it is imperative for use on the island. Good location even though the town is pretty small.

Not too impressed with this place I'm afraid -- the place smacked of "let's make as much money as possible." First, we had to pay $1.50 for the sheets. Apparently this was to cover the cost of washing them. Have you ever heard anything like it! We were also very annoyed when we were told unapologetically by staff that there were no more plates, cups, and cutlery for us to cook with because the hostel was "full." Come on, a hostel should have at least enough kitchen utensils, if not a surplus! And we weren't given pillows, and had to complain to a grumpy reception team a number of times before we got what them (at one point, we were told that there may not be any pillows left for us! The cheek). Fraser Island trip was ok, but if we opened the first aid box, we'd have to pay $25. To top it all off, when we got back after the trip, we found our food had been chucked out because it wasn't labelled properly. If only the sign telling us exactly how to label it wasn't hidden away under piles of bags in the fridge. And then it was noisy at night. All in all, a bad hostel with unapologetic staff.

I stayed there for around 3 nights and had one of the best times of my life. The Bar really goes off on the weekends with drinking games, dancing on tables and good fun entertainment (the staff). The staff are great fun. They like to have a joke around with you and usually end up in the bar of an evening. I did the fraser island trip with them (the 3day 2night) and i had the best fun ever. we all met up on the island and had a massive party.. all the equipment is in good condition and the cars are great! The hostel is situated right in the centre of the town and about 1min walk to the best beach in Hervey Bay. I highly recomend this hostel to anyone wanting to have a fun time, party the night away and do a good fraser trip!

I don't want to blame but this is a very specific case. First of all I was very surprised that we need to pay for a blanket ($1), because they don't give any. Internet is $3 — across the road it is only $2 (yes, they like visitors). The receptionists don't work at night at all. When I came back from a disco club to my dorm, I found someone was sleeping on my bed — the room was overbooked, eight people and only seven beds, so I had the bad luck to sleep on the floor (reception was not working). Moreover, when I told them about that in the morning, they only said "Sorry. If you are not happy with your place we can move you to another one." No compensation was paid at all, they referred to the policy. I was very angry with them! Don't recommend!!!

DO NOT STAY HERE! Our room was situated between the bar and the bathrooms and we did not sleep a wink! Rooms were musty, service without a smile. We also waited for the 5:20 a.m. shuttle (the only early a.m. shuttle) to get to the bus station, which decided not to come that day and we got stuck frantically searching for a cab. Stay elsewhere!

This wasn't too bad. The rooms are clean and safe enough, but we were right next to the toilets. People kept using the hand dryer all night, which wasn't exactly quiet. Some of the staff have that "I hate backpackers, so I'll work in a hostel" type attitude but the rest are ok. Also they charge for everything including linen cleaning costs, which you have to pay a deposit for since they only give you a pillow and mattress cover on the bed. The facilities are good, and the kitchen is clean. Not the best place in town but not the worst.

The beds were new, and I had a nice quiet room for a good sleep. The staff were nice, and funny, too. I did the Fraser Island trip and had an excellent time with my group. We had fires at night.
