Hostel Ahijuna isn't going to win any design awards. It looks like it has been cobbled together with materials bought from a reclamation yard, mismatched tiles and bricks in the bathroom and kitchen and several shades of paint on one wall. It is very functional and not very homey but it is clean and has a very good location.
It is quite a small hostel and each room only has a couple of beds which can be booked as a twin or you can book one bed to share with another person. The rooms are clean with comfortable beds but quite claustrophobic. They provide clean towels.
The shared bathroom has a couple of toilets and two showers and it is very basic, but again it is clean. Likewise the kitchen is basic but clean; it has one cooker and a table and very few cooking implements.
The hostel is in a very good location. Just come out of the front entrance of the bus station on Av Julio A Roca (known locally as Roca), turn right and you will come to it in a few blocks. If you come out of the back entrance of the bus station and walk down the flight of steps you are on the main street where all the restaurants are.
Security isn´t great as the front door is not locked during the day. Also, there isn't always someone around as the owner is usually upstairs, but he can be called down using a bell on the front door. The owner is friendly and helpful and can speak quite good English.
The atmosphere in Ahijuna is quiet and not so sociable but it is a very reasonable price and convenient if you are only staying a few nights.
