Excellent
Best hostel I stayed in the North Island! Brand new, very safe, five minutes to town and very comfy beds in cozy dorms. Great staff! I left my camera battery plugged into the wall and the staff went out of their way to post it back to me a few days later. Stay here!

Modern and clean
Treks is nice, modern, and new. We stayed in a standard double in Feb. '08. The room was as basic as you can get, but more importantly very clean. Unfortunately didn't get much sleep during our stay, mainly due to noisy other guests but the acoustics of the building seemed to be partially to blame as well -- we could hear the people in the room right down the other end of our wing with both our doors closed! Only other complaint would be the pillows. The common areas are all spotlessly clean. Kitchen is impressive -- modern and well equipped -- and bathrooms are superb. Reasonably priced, very secure and good location, within walking distance to town.

Amazing!
This place was absolutely amazing! It was located in a great area with restaurants, shops, and bars all within a short walk. It was incredibly clean. The kitchen was massive, clean, fully equipped, and had both indoor and outdoor seating. The rooms were fairly large and had all of the essentials (no bunks, hooks, big mirror, under the bed storage). The bathrooms were well kept. They even had hair dryers! I would definitely recommend this place.

Just Great! Best hostel I have stayed in.
Everything is clean and tidy. Wonderful kitchen with lots of space and utensils. They even have oil and spices! Rooms are clean and comfortable. Staff was friendly. Cleanest washroom and shower I have ever seen! Would come back anytime.

Outstanding!
I stayed with a friend for one night in a four-bed shared room in Treks, Rotorua, and loved it to bits! Absolutely spotless, superb security, thoroughly friendly staff, and a very, very comfortable bed. And, of course, backpacker-cheap. Not much else you need to ask for at all. I'd go back to Treks any day, without question.

Great Hostel
Having booked this hostel and known anything about it, it was a lovely surprise to see how clean and tidy it was. The bathrooms were spotless and so were the dorms. There were no Bunks which was good, and the security was good. The only down side was that reception could be open later and there was no Wireless connection to the internet and the computers there only allowed very limited access.

Absolutely amazing hostel, stayed here early November 2006. Lovely rooms, clean bathrooms, great location, and to top it all off, some of the nicest staff you will ever meet.

Stayed for four nights in the double ensuite room June '06. Very modern hostel. Actual room was very compact, but most importantly clean. Large well stocked kitchen/dining area with plenty of seatings. Located at the edge of town centre but only a casual ten minutes walk away so no big deal. We rang to inform them we would arrived outside the normal reception time, but they happily stayed until we arrived to sort out the paperwork/keys etc. Overall, very tidy hostel, and would definitely recommend it to anyone.

The best backpackers I've ever stayed at so far. Friendly, knowledgeable and extremely helpful staff, gorgeously clean and complete (they even had a pot of rosemary to spice up your meal) kitchen and a cool lounge to chill out and watch TV -- accompanied with great beds and spotless bathrooms -- Treks is an absolute gem! Very family-friendly too. The only complaint I had was on the flat, sunken pillow. But you can always rent another pillow for one dollar or something like that. Why can't all backpackers be like this?

Brilliant hostel. Huge kitchen with plenty of space. The room we were in was lovely and clean. Centrally located, within walking distance of a few supermarkets. The staff at reception were more than helpful giving us hints and booking us in for mud baths.

An absolutely excellent hostel. We stayed in a double en-suite room, which was good enough to be a hotel. The whole place was amazingly clean and there were brilliant communal facilities -- the kitchen stood out in particular. The staff were also very friendly and helpful.

Amazing hostel. Definitely spartan in style rather than cosy, but comfortable beds, lovely bathrooms with a hairdrier, amazing kitchen with everything you could possibly need, and really friendly helpful staff. Thoroughly recommend it.

The best hostel we've ever stayed at! One of those places that actually looks as good as the photos (which doesn't happen very often eh?!). The bedroom was freshly painted, with a big bed with a thick fleecy throw and fluffy pillows. And even though it wasn't that cold when we stayed the heating was available. Bathrooms were also spotless and brand new with constant hot water available. The kitchen was definitely my favorite place — big shiny steel sideboards and stuffed full with appliances and utensils. Also there are plenty of spices and herbs around – as well as a "free food" shelf. We were even inspired to cook ourselves a proper meal! The common room had brand new huge couches and beanbags — plenty of games and magazines lying around, too. The prices are about the same as most of the hostels in Rotorua — but Treks also offers a discount for anyone with a backpacker card. Because the hostel is so new it's only just starting to get itself published in Lonely Planet/Rough Guide etc., so go and stay there while its still a secret! I should also add that the people who run it are lovely — and even drove us down to the bus station to save us walking with our backpacks!

Stayed two nights in June 2005. Spotlessly clean and warm with plenty of hot water and excellent communal kitchen facilities. Better than many hotels and a very good value. It has it's own car park and centrally, but quietly situated. Would appeal to all ages of traveller. Bedroom could do with brighter light and shelving but those are minor criticisms. I recommend it wholeheartedly!

Brand new hostel. Everything is sparkling new and spotless. Maybe some would think it a bit clinical but I like clean and new. I stayed in an en suite double room. Great facilities. There is an excellent kitchen, reading area and TV room, and a very friendly and helpful reception. It's only two blocks away from the main shopping and restaurant area. It's one of the best hostels in New Zealand or Australia that we've stayed in.
