The Hostelz.com Review
HI - Bled - Penzion Bledec Youth Hostel resembles a quaint version of the typical HI hostel -- immaculately clean, very quiet, and an older crowd. You'll find local patrons in the breakfast room in the morning, and the older manager of the hostel seems a little distracted though quite friendly.
The Location
The village of Bled is quite small, so everything is within walking distance of the hostel. After arriving in Bled (typically via bus, as the train only goes to a nearby town), the hostel is a ten-minute walk away. Although the streets are hardly well-marked, the town is too small to hide anything, and all the hostels are located on the same road.
You'll find the local Slovenian restaurant right down the hill or a hearty pizza spot around the corner. Bled's nightlife is very quiet, but there is a local pub right down the road from the hostel that can pack a good crowd. The hostel is very convenient for those wanting to climb up to the castle; one of the trails starts on the hostel property, and the owner is more than happy to point the way for you.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Converted from an old house, the hostel is built of old oak wood and dark carpets. The rooms are large with plenty of space, containing a table and several wardrobes. Although the rooms do not offer lockers, each room does have an en-suite bathroom/shower for approximately ten beds. The bathrooms are spacious and very clean, with a large sized shower.
Common Spaces
The hostel doesn't really offer "social" spaces, as it just tends to be too quiet compared to a typical hostel. It does offer a small chair in the lobby, a small side room with a couch and a table, and a large dining room for meals (breakfast is included in the price). The hostel seems to be occupied typically by older groups, families, and younger travelers. The hostel provides free Wi-Fi, and you can borrow the reception desk to use the internet if you don't have your own access point.
Summary
HI - Bled - Penzion Bledec Youth Hostel offers a quiet, secluded place to relax while absorbing the natural beauty in Bled. It's a great place to stay if you're looking for a quieter experience.

The best Hostel In BLED my brother and I stayed last night but had to leave at 5am so unfortunately didn't get a chance to say goodbye or write in the guest book! But just wanted to say a massive thank you for the fantastic hospitality; delicious meals; and lovely, friendly stay in Bled. Thank you for all your help and going out of your way to get us breakfast that early in the morning! — Rosie , UK (2010-05-18)
Didn't stay there because of attitude of staff I arrived about 12 o'clock and was asking just to check the room before paying (how it looks -- how much place does it have -- cause i had a bad experience the night before also with "good" hostel). The woman was terrible -- i had to feel stupid because i wanted to see the room. And its quite expensive too -- 21-22 EUR. And there is no opportunity to get it cheaper without breakfast. — Linda , Latvia (2008-07-07)

This was one of the best hostels I've stayed in throughout all of Europe, if not the best. The staff was very friendly and very helpful. The rooms are extremely clean and nice with a great bathroom. The price was incredible considering the quality with breakfast included! — Dave Brokke (2007-03-15)

Very comfortable hostel and very helpful staff. A good breakfast is included in the price. The only downside is the lack of self-catering facilities, but there is a cheap pizza restaurant nearby. — Alan (2007-03-06)

This hostel is a nightmare to find if you follow Lonely Planet map - just get off at the bus station and turn left following the signs. The hostel is lovely. It's very old fashioned (in a good way). The dorm is the nicest I have stayed in. The dorms have en-suite bathrooms -- really clean and nice. It is like staying in a hotel -- an excellent choice of hostel. Plus breakfast is included. The downside is that there are no lockers. — Dan (2007-02-10)

What a great little hostel! The rooms were really comfortable and very clean. The staff were really friendly and helpful, although busy, and organised a canyoning trip for me. It is a hike up the hill, especially with a pack, but a cold beer and warm atmosphere awaits you on arrival! The only thing that could be done to improve would be to provide lockers in the rooms rather than just cupboards. But the staff were happy to lock up valuables whilst I was canyoning anyway so it was no problem. I would recommend it to anyone and will be back again no doubt! — Emma (2006-09-09)

Wonderful hostel with a chalet-lodge feel to it, spotlessly clean dorms with ensuite bathrooms, and a great restaurant serving heaping portions of yummy pasta at reasonable prices. As others have mentioned, the women who work there are unfortunately overworked, as they have to run the reception, restaurant, and everything else all at once, so it can be hard to get their attention. One of them was quite grumpy but the other one was very friendly. The hostel is a hike uphill from the bus station but it's well-marked with signs. It's also conveniently-located for the pathway up to the castle. Bled is so idyllic and beautiful, and this is a great place to stay to enjoy the town and the lake. — Sarah (2006-07-09)

This is a really great hostel, one of the best I've ever been in. Cleanliness is 5-star and as good as any expensive hotel. There is a restaurant and bar downstairs. We only had breakfast here which was impressively good. Although it is a way from the train station, it is very close to Bled Lake itself. The castle and the bus station are not far either. The bar was quite active with other guests chatting till very late. I really don't know how they do this for the price. If you want to see the sites of Bled this is the best place to stay. — Kameal Celestee (2005-08-31)

This place was one of the best places I stayed at in Europe. I stayed there in January and although it was a little quiet, there were still plenty of people around to socialize with. The hostel has its own restaurant joined to it, which is super cheap for dinner, and they have awesome breakfasts. The location is good, behind the castle. Although from the bus station you have to walk up a steep road, which can be tiring when you have a heavy backpack on your back.
Also, I wouldn't advise anyone to get their clothes washed here because they throw everything in the machine together, and the coloring from my jeans ended up all over everything else. But other than that this was a great place! — Justin (2005-04-25)
