Val Hostel is the only hostel in the tiny village of Piran, but don't be discouraged by your lack of options, it is a perfectly good hostel. It's located about 10 minutes from the bus station. Walk along the water's edge towards the end of the peninsula and make a right past IVO restaurant.
The rooms are a little dingy with age, but they are still clean and each has its own wash basin and mirror. There is no locker storage, but most rooms come with a closet. Linens and a towel are provided in the room (as well as soap). The bathrooms are down the hall. They are clean and separated by gender. The showers are great with plenty of hot water, but there are only two showers and one toilet in each bathroom, so you will have a wait during the busy summer months. The bathrooms come equipped with hairdryers.
There is a small kitchenette room that also contains a washing machine (500 SIT) and ironing board (500 SIT). There is a small TV and a few couches downstairs in the large reception/dining area, but not many hostel-goers seem to hang out there. A pull out desk hides a computer with internet access (1 euro per hour). It's a slow connection but there doesn't seem to be any other in town. The dining area serves breakfast in the morning (included in the price).
The owners are easygoing and friendly, but not especially helpful. There is no deposit for the room key, and no curfew. Val Hostel is quiet and not very social, but it provides all the amenities and is a great choice for budget travellers who want to experience picture perfect Piran.
