The Hostelz.com Review
Hippo Lodge is a wonderful place to stay. It is situated on a steep hill, so whether you are in a en-suite room or in dorms, it has great views of Queenstown.

It has a friendly vibe, but we were still able to sleep well as it was not noisy at all. The buildings are in good condition, and it looks like it has been redone recently (painting and new, modern furnishings). We stayed in a en-suite double room, but it was in fact a self-contained little flat with its own little kitchenette, dining table, TV, and its own shower and toilet. Not to mention a vew from our bed over the lake. And all this for a very good price.

The hostel has its own parking area adjacent to the house, but it is not that big. When the lodge is full this is a problem. The property is on a slope, so parking could be a bit tricky. In addition to the carpark, the hostel offers email access and laundry. The office also has a lot of information on all Queenstown has to offer. If you like gardens, go and walk in the botanical garden of Queenstown, it even has its own frisby golf course.

Finding Hippo Lodge is not as straightforward as on the map from their website, simply because Queenstown is hilly and has narrow roads. The lodge is not right in town, so it is quieter and the grocery shop and town centre is only about ten to fifteen minutes' walk.

4 Nice people, pretty clean. Rooms are in different buildings though, and if you are in the main building it can be a bit too noisy at night. The climb is very steep to walk when you're drunk. :)

3 Good place to stay. Be forewarned: if you have to walk from a bus drop off you have quite a hike ahead of you (short, but super steep).

5 I surely like the view. It's a great bathroom you have. Greetings from Noel "The Redneck" Roobson
