Miserable staff, unhelpful I've stayed in quite a few hostels across europe and also others in Brasil but I visited the Adventure Hostel in Ipanema in Rio from the 18th to the 20th of September 2009. The service we received was, to say the least pathetic. The people working there was miserable and it felt like we didn't want to go back to the hostel to rest. 90 dollars was stolen from the safety deposit box in my room. Air conditioning was switched off and the bathrooms was filthy all the time, we were also accused of not paying for water, which we bought from another attendant in a totally uncalled for manner. I really don't know why we had this experienced because I thought we were three of the easiest hostel goers there. I would not suggest anybody visit this hostel, it will be a total waste of money. don't waste your time.

Very bad I've been in this hostel few days ago and I have to admit it was the worse hostel I've ever been! The room is very small, with small window. We stayed three nights (we paid in advance) and one night the room was cleaned and the other not, so all the beds of people who checked out stayed dirty! The breakfast starts at 7:30 but the staff were late and we had to wait, so it's no point to wake up early, and beside they have only one table to serve the breakfast so it happened that we came and had to wait because it was no place! The bathroom was filthy and the toilet always broken so it was stinking in the whole hostel all the time! The people stayed mostly only a night, couldn't stand this conditions. We would do the same but we already paid. They had also problems to find out if we paid or not, so they let us bring a paper from the bank and show by checking in. The only advantage of this hostel is the localisation, very near the Ipanema beach, and some members of the staff were helpful but unfortunately other not at all!

Average Hostal, Strange Rules The hostal is average if not a bit small, but the staff is bipolar. I was "reminded" one morning while preparing breakfast that the kitchen is only open from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. To me, any hostal that does not let you make cereal with a sliced apple when you wake up is just not an option. They staff was also pretty rude about the whole payment situation. They lost track of my payment and then told someone in my room to ask me to come down to pay. And then asked me to produce proof of payment by showing them their own receipt. At the end there was no apology.

It's a smaller hostel in the heart of Ipanema. Staff are friendly if not very knowledgeable. The rooms are smaller than other hostels in Rio but they are clean and you get a huge locker to store all your stuff, including a safe. They also make the bed everyday. The location, as I said, is simply the best. It is literally 4 blocks to Crystal Palace and to the famous Posto 9. One thing I disliked was you have to be buzzed in every time you go out. It's annoying and after a while it feels like you are in a prison.
