Hostelz.com's Review
If you are looking for a nice and small place to stay in at the east cost of Nova Scotia, then Kip & Kaboodle Mahone Bay/Lunenburg Hostel is the place to be.

The Location

The hostel is situated between Lunenburg and Mahone Bay (just ninety minutes by car from Halifax) in a quiet countryside with free parking just in front of the hostel. If you come from Halifax you can take the bus -- Trius Tours operates a daily shuttle between Halifax and Yarmouth or make a reservation with Kiwi Kaboodle Shuttle (which is run by the owner of the hostel). Shops, bars, and restaurants are in Mahone Bay which is about three kilometers. There are beaches and walking trails close by.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The hostel has one really big and colored room with bunk beds upstairs -- the entire place sleeps nine. The showers and toilets are upstairs as well. The common area and the kitchen are downstairs. You will get free linen and sheets for the bed. The rooms, the kitchen, and the bathrooms are not clean at all. We stayed there two nights and in this time the bathrooms and toilets hadn´t been cleaned and the trash in these and the other rooms were not emptied out. Security seems to be good with a locking front door but no looks for the room, but since the hostel is in the countryside we didn´t feel that our belongings were unsafe.

Common Spaces

There is a nice colored common area with couches, an old radio, but no TV. Tthe computer was broken during our stay, but there used to be free internet as well as free wireless. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need. There is a BBQ outside and a couple of chairs to relax in the sun.

This hostel is a nice location to enjoy the countryside and to explore Mahone Bay, Lunenburg, and the area around. It is a small place with character but unfortunately it is not clean at all.

3   The host Trudi is the nicest person, but the place should be tidy up it is messy and the kitchen have rotten bread outside of the frig. just waste and trash piled up. the rooms are clean, bathroom should be fixed so one of it has a shower head. and clean up a bit. overall it is a quiet and beautiful place, I have never taken pics as beautiful as the one I took in mahone bay. internet too slow.  , USA ()
5  If you are on a tight budget but still want to stay in a clean and comfortable place, then this is the hostel for you. The bathrooms were above and beyond my expectations and the kitchen is well equipped. It was nice to have breakfast included as well. The bunkbeds were a bit of an issue if your fellow travellers snore but other than that it was a great place to stay!  ()
5  Great hostel with very friendly owners. The hostel is small and has the best beds I have ever experienced in a hostel. Its very nicely decorated upstairs and has a comfortable living room downstairs. Bathrooms are like a hotel. Great place to chill out at and great location between Mahone Bay and Lunenberg.  ()
5  I love the décor (I do!) and I love the location. This is a relatively cheap, relaxed place to stay in a beautiful but expensive part of Nova Scotia. The hosts are friendly and are full of great ideas (cheap ideas) of things to do.  ()
5  The painting is awesome. It's so bright and sends out a great vibe. This is a great place to stay when you're in Mahone Bay.  ()
5  What a great place! Staying here is just like staying with old friends. The hostel (newly built when I stayed here this fall) is adorable, and Greg and Trudi are lovely hosts. They know where all the best places to go are — and so many of them are nearby. This hostel is in one of the prettiest parts of the province.  ()
4  We stayed here with our three children for a few days in summer 2004. It's very clean, very colorful, and very affordable. The owners are friendly and honest (they also have lots of ideas about what you can do in the area). The property is beautiful — we saw deer in the forest. It's just a few minutes' drive from Lunenburg, Mahone Bay and lots of great Nova Scotia beaches.  ()
5  Wow! What a great hostel. It was really friendly, bright and colorful. What a change from the other hostels I've stayed in! Plus it has REALLY comfortable beds!  ()
