Downtown-Lodge is near the train station within five minutes' walking distance. Great location! People can get to any scenery locations in a short distance. It has a big garden and can accommodate lots of people. The picnic area is fantastic with snow covered mountains in front of you!
The staff here are very helpful. They can provide very clear and nice suggestions for people to go around the town and hiking trail. It is a great place to stay!
The room is big with a free kitchen and all cooking equipment inside! People enjoy cooking their own food and bring them to the picnic area outside to enjoy the mountain view and cool breeze! The kitchen is very clean and tidy. They provide buffet style breakfast, very "luxury" compared with other hostels in Switzerland with the very reasonable price. Bathrooms are clean as well.
The common room is great, with couch and TV for you to spend the night after a day of hiking and wandering in the mountains. There are free beach chairs for people to use. This place gives you a sense of freedom, relaxation, tranquility, and peacefulness. After a day of travelling, it will be a great place to rest and plan your next day's activity.

Downtown Lodge is centrally located in Grindelwald and ideal for active, young and young-at-heart individual guests, families and groups.
Our total of 5 lodges with 33 rooms and nearly 300 beds offer a comprehensive infrastructure at attractive rates, including free use of the kitchen, free Internet stations and W-LAN as well as an extensive range of entertainment. We can accommodate 20-280 persons for groups of any kind.
The main building houses the Downtown Bar, a bistro with an attractive range of drinks and snacks.
We are happy to assist you in planning your trips to make your stay in the glacier village as memorable as possible. And if you are still full of energy at the onset of darkness, "Grindelwald by Night" is waiting for you. Within 5 minutes a variety of bars, pubs and discos want to be explored.

Everything! The hostel has everything and is quite large. The staff were really good, there is a good lounge where there is pool and table soccer, the breakfast was awesome and the rooms were really tidy.

I am normally not a fan of staying in hostels but this one was great. It felt like summer camp, great spaces indoors and outdoors to hang out. Full kitchen, easy to make your own food. Rooms were big and clean. The staff was very nice and helpful. It is in a great location, just off the main street. Easy walk to hiking trails, train station, and grocery stores.

Great laid back atmosphere, very close to station and starts for hiking. Great having lockers in room, feel comfortable leaving stuff there all day.
Extremely friendly staff, will help you with what to do in the area.
Great having FREE access to local pool, nice water slide!

Beautiful views, very friendly and helpful staff. Easy to find, and a great value for what you get. The free breakfast in the morning was great, and the availability of food at the hostel for lunch/dinner made finding inexpensive food easy. Would definitely stay there again

I like the lodge style buildings that fit in with the architecture of the buildings in the Grindewald region. My room which was for up to 6 persons was spacious. My sister and I ended up having the room to ourselves only for the night that we stay there.

This lodge offers a clean and comfortable stay if you are planning to stay on low budget. We were offered a room which was although a bit dark but had clean with comfortable beds and clean linen. TV and internet zones are in common area however the internet speed in our room was good too. Pool tables and Game zones are paid. The morning breakfast had ample options to select and the staff was helpful. Though the showers were not attached to our room and were in seperate area, they were clean and not crowded. Overall, an average stay.

It was a clean and friendly hostel, and having breakfast included is fantastic. The rooms were really nice and didn't feel too cramped. It's a plus to have lockers too as well as a comfortable common room, where everyone can hang out.

I had a dorm room all for myself (I was there in the summer). It's a bit too far from the center, but if you are coming to Gridenwald you are there for the sports. Reasonable breakfast, lockers in the room. The showers and the bathroom could be better. — Lmalmeida (2005-08-26)
