Mount Richmond Estate is a great place to visit any time of the year. As the seasons change so do the views.

Enjoy the spacious 10 acre grounds on a sunny plateau high above Rai Valley. Surrounded by native and exotic forest the peace and tranquility will completely recharge you.

Mount Richmond Estate is adjacent to Mount Richmond Forest Park and near Pelorus Bridge.

Mt Richmond Forest Park stretches 100 km along the rugged backbone of the Mt Richmond Range from St Arnaud all the way to the coast. It forms the backdrop to Nelson city and dominates the skyline from Blenheim and the Wairau Valley. Over 80% of the vast area is covered in dense forest with Manuka, Kanuka, bracken and gorse common around the margins of the park. The high peaks like Mt Richmond (1,700 meters) and the ‘Alpine Route' further south have small alpine grasslands.

Geological interest in the park is high as the main South Island alpine fault runs along the southern boundary. This is the largest active fault line in New Zealand and extends down to South Westland. The Red Hills and Dun Mountain have high levels of magnesium and iron, which gives them a distinctive rust color. Over millions of years they have been moved 600 km north from the identical rocks in the Red Hills of South Westland.

New for 2010, our new cafe/restaurant - Foresters. Currently open 9am - 6pm daily (except Christmas Day), serving delicious chef produced meals, snacks. Also serving soft drinks and fantastic locally roasted coffee. Sit inside in front of the log burner in the cooler months or outside on the deck in the warmer months.

Mount Richmond Resort Reviews on Other Websites
5 The property was much better than described on the hostel bookers website. although further from nelson than anticipated (35min) the pleasant peaceful surrounds and facilities more than compensated.   — Customer review (2010-01-22) Hostelbookers
5 it was very good value, the chalet was clean and comfortable, and it also had ensuite facilities.   — Norman Wareing (2008-05-07) Hostelbookers
4 Spacious cabins in a rural setting. A little remote and on one night, we were the only people staying there! Only viable if with a car as it is 40km from Nelson and 2/3 km from the nearest shop. No credit card/EFTPOS facilities available.   — Michael Ham (2008-02-01) Hostelbookers
5 it's a marvellous place close to forest   — Marie MORILLON (2008-01-02) Hostelbookers
4 The hotel did not receive the booking by Hostelbookers. This is the second time that happended, the first time was in Perth. I wonder what for I pay the comission.   — Judith Stoll (2007-12-31) Hostelbookers
