The Hostelz.com Review
Farah Hotel & Hostel is a comfy and quiet place to meet fellow travelers and a great spot for hiking up to the Amman Citadel above.

The Location

The hostel is located right below the Citadel, and not far from the Roman amphitheater. From the main road, signs guide you to the hotel, which is located near several ATMs and a movie theater. There are also a few mini-marts and shops nearby, such as jewelry stores. The hostel is off the sidewalk, well-marked up a flight of outdoor stairs. Inside the hostel there is an elevator so you don't have to carry your bags up three flights of stairs.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The dorm room is clean if sparse. The beds are not bunked and the linens are already on them. The room has a ceiling fan. There is a television and individual lockers, and some plugs. The rooms are single sex unless you request a private double. There are bathrooms located on each floor -- one with a western toilet and one with a squat toilet. Each has a shower -- toilet paper or towels are questionable.

Common Spaces

Typical Middle-Eastern breakfast of tea, hard-boiled egg, pita, is included in the mornings downstairs. There is a television in the lobby with couches where people hang out to chat and share stories. The hostel can help arrange tours of the Amman area, Jerash, or other excursions in Jordan -- since the whole country is so small almost any trip is a day trip from Amman. There are also about four cats that hang around the lobby. Smoking is allowed. The hostel has Wi-Fi and a computer available for a price.

Summary

Overall, Farah is a nice place to crash in central Amman at a low price.

3  Convenient location The hostel was ok. The room wasn't extra clean but it was bug free. The main highlight of this hostel is that it's located near the best falafel place in Amman. Go down to Al-Malek Faisal Street (where all the other hostels are). At the fork, take left (Al-Amir Mohammed Street) and walk up until you get to an alley. Search for the falafel man, he's on the right side of the alley and his name is Zahar. A sandwich (as of three days ago) is 300 fils. Watch his hands while he makes it. This is in front of the Hasheem restaurant, which is also good.  , spain ()
5  If you're in Amman you can't beat this place or price I don't usually post reviews but I stayed here in April 2008 whilst participating in the Dead Sea Ultramarathon and felt I had to recommend this hotel to others. The staff are brilliant and could not be more helpful. I lost count of the amount of above-and-beyond things they did for us. The hotel is clean, brilliantly located in the centre of town but set back from other buildings so it's an oasis of calm in a crazy city. They offer tours covering all of Jordan at really good prices, a good free breakfast and clean, warm showers. The room was great too. Basic but very clean and all this for 10JD for a private room -- £3.50 each! In short, stay here!  , England ()
5  Great Budget for Backpackers, recommended We enjoyed staying in Farah Hotel during our several visits to Jordan. It is a great budget for backpackers. The rooms are clean. The staff were very kind and helpful in everything we needed. We appreciated the warm atmosphere, staff, breakfast, local coffee and tea, and the bedouin tent beside the hotel. The location is perfect to discover Amman with its traditional markets and historical sites and to book visits from the hotel which arranges good trips to the attractive sites in the town and the country like Petra, Dead Sea, Jerash. Nice souvenir and new positive experience each time. Very recommended to everyone.  , French ()
4  I stayed at Farah Hotel with my daughter in 2000, staff very friendly and helpful. we enjoyed a basic breakfast but well prepared and good, Coffee (important to us!) good. When my daughter fell ill staff immediately arranged for fresh drinking water and extra cleanings. They also provided for a beer from neighbouring bars when solicited. Water was always available but honestly I don't remember we needed hot shower during the summer months. I happen to know Jordan quiet well from earlier visits and met at Farah with "my former" driver Jamal Suriadi who took us on several trips all over the country. All in all good experience and my daughter also enjoyed the stay in the hotel, the food at Al Quds and the over all experience in Jordan. Recommended!  ()
5  The rooms are of a rather basic nature (even though they are clean!) and showers don't have hot water. but I loved this place. The guy at the reception (nabil) was so helpful and protective. I already miss having arabic bread with raspberry jam for breakfast while watching arabic music TV. They arranged good value trips to Umm quays, jerash, and the dead sea for me. I recommend this place for people who go for atmosphere and positive experiences rather than luxury.  ()
5  I stayed at Farahs several times in November 2005. I have travelled a lot and this is one of the friendliest places I have ever stayed at. I could recommend it to everyone. The rooms are very basic but clean and the view over the hills from some rooms are really nice. The owner was really friendly and helped med a lot with different arrangements like booking Turkish bath and helping me with information about different things in the coumtry and even in Syria. A perfect place to book trips to Dead Sea, Mt Nebo, Madaba, Karak, Desert Castles, Petra, and Wadi Rum from. The owner even took me shopping and helped me bargin the last day of my stay. Thank you so very much!! The "camel bag" is now on my wall at home. So nice!  ()
4  I stayed here in June 2002 for a day, booked a room only because I had to wait for my plane to depart somewhere around midnight. The staff was very, very friendly. I planned to sleep a bit during the day, but the guy behind the desk was so friendly, I stayed almost all day in the lobby, talking, listening to Tracy Chapman tapes, drinking and so on. When he realised I wasn't using the room at all, he offered my money back. I refused, of course.  ()
1  The staff here are horrible. Everything is a terrible inconvenience for them. We did not get the breakfast we paid for. We had to wake the staff an hour later than the arranged time for a trip to the Dead Sea that we paid for. Driving anywhere was a big hassle for the staff. When we arrived they did not have the room for us that we booked. It was the worst hostel I have ever stayed in; it might even have been one of the worst experiences of my life. After all this, the hostel owner tried to bribe us into giving his place a good review.  ()
