The Hostelz.com Review
Travellers' Hostel Dlouhá is a true party hostel in a superb location near old town square. It is not as clean or modern as some hostels, but this is the place to be if you want to have a good time in Prague.
The Location
The hostel is in a very central location, just two minutes’ walk from old town square. Prague is a very condensed city, so Charles Bridge, the castle, and all other main attractions are fifteen minutes’ walk away. It is also in a great area for nightlife with a wide range of bars and clubs in the vicinity, including its own Roxy Music club right next door. It takes about twenty minutes to walk here from the train station or take metro line A and get off at Staromestska, walk along Kaprova, through old town square to Dlouha Street. The hostel is about two-hundred-fifty meters along here on the left hand side.
Rooms and Bathrooms
There are a variety of rooms in this hostel including private apartments, one- to six-bed rooms, and dormitories. The dorms are arranged in apartments each containing two twelve-bed dorms, male and female bathrooms, and a kitchen and dining area. As you can imagine, sharing an apartment with twenty-four people is very social but not a good place to be if you want a good night's sleep. If you want to party chose a dorm, if not get a private room. The rooms have some aesthetic problems, with a few cracks in the walls, but they are clean. Free lockers and linen are provided. You are given a set of keys to open the dorm apartments and your room, but this is not very secure as doors are often left propped open.
The bathrooms have a little bit of mould in them, but are generally quite clean although not very modern. There seem to be plenty of showers -- we never had to queue.
Common Spaces
The dorm apartments are very social; despite the lack of space in the dining room, almost everyone manages to crowd around and join the party. For people staying in private rooms, there is a bar which is the main social area. It is not always that busy but occasionally it does get going. If there is a party in the dorms people in private rooms are welcome to join. The bar is also where the free breakfast is served. Breakfast consists of cereal; yogurt; bread and jam; tea, coffee, and juice of average quality. There are free computers in the lobby and free Wi-Fi.
Summary
This hostel has a great atmosphere and is full of lively and interesting people. It is in a great location to get to know everything that Prague has to offer, both day and night.

Their Description
Travellers Hostel was founded by Prague-native Petr Jelinek (a former civil engineer). The first hostel was opened only few months after the Velvet Revolution in the Czech Republic and the Fall of the Berlin Wall, when the borders of the Czech Republic were opened to millions of foreign travellers for the first time in 40 years.
Jelinek's idea was to provide reasonably priced accomodation in the center of the city. All of the Travellers Hostels are within walking distance to the most interesting sights of Prague.
Since the first hostel opened by the Charles Bridge in 1990, the total capacity of the Travellers Hostels has risen to 750 beds in 7 different hostels. The services available have also increased, to include such amenities as an online reservation service, Internet access, parking, hostel bars, garden pubs and BBQ's, bike rental, laundry service, and transport between Prague and the beautiful South Bohemian city of Cesky Krumlov (where one of the Travellers Hostels is located). We are also planning to open a boat hostel "Amelia", which will have another 40 beds and be docked on the Vltava river, with lovely views of Prague Castle and the Old Town.
The staff of Travellers Hostels is made up of friendly, young, English speaking Czechs who are always happy to provide our guests with a wide range of information to ensure that their stay in Prague is as enjoyable as possible.

The services were very good. Because of very low price I expected much more worse conditions and it wasn't so bad.

Was very close to the Old Town Square so was within walking distance of sights and many restaurants. Security was good - had to be buzzed through main door and each day the code for the door to the floors was changed so felt quite secure. We were given the wrong directions to get from the bus station (at 330am) and ended up going the complete wrong direction and spent an hour trying to get back and finding the correct number tram. Also, we were on the third floor and there is a bar at the end of it which you are able to smoke in and the smoke carried through the entire floor and into the rooms. The noise from the bar wasn't too bad although it said they closed at 12 but could still hear people in there at 6am.

location was great.but there was a big group of really noisy, inconsiderate people, who kept us awake for 2 nights, playing loud music, shouting, singing etc.i asked them to be quiet and so did other people but they took no notice.i have worked at hostels myself and we always walk round the hostel every hour during the night.if the staff had done this they would have known what was going on and these people might have taken more notice of them.it totally spoiled our stay.i would not stay here next time i am in prague and would not reccommend this hostel

Horrible This is probably the worst hostel in Prague, possibly in all of Europe. The staff are ok, but the dorm rooms are filthy dirty and barely kept clean. Bedbugs? Check. Piss all over the floor in all the bathrooms? Check. Bait and switch? Check. If your travel agent suggests this place, I would suggest that you find a new travel agent who has your well being in mind. Location isn't everything, you know. — radial , usa (2008-02-04)

Quality Hostel and very central location Great location. The place is kept pretty clean which is always appreciated! And downstairs there is the Roxy Dance club with a very large dance floor and drinks are cheap as well. Also Downstairs there is a bar with an art gallery -- very underground style with also cheap drinks. One of the best hostels that I have ever been. — PFong , Portugal (2007-11-25)

I stayed in a eight-person room in the other part of the hostel, a gallery courtyard fifty meters away from the main hostel. It was quite clean and quiet (but nothing exceptional) and had a quite nice private bathroom. Didn't really get to see the kitchen, though. Dlouha is quite central, the staff was quite nice though impersonal. — Kaja (2007-01-28)

Nice Hostel in Prague. Building a bit old, but central and with nice atmosphere. Stayed there for three nights. Dormitory of sixteen people(mix dormitory), in wooden double beds, really comfortable. The room also was really big and comfortable and surprisingly clean and quiet any time of the day. There are big windows so there was no problem with ventilation. Lockers really big, need a pad. Common room, bathroom, and kitchen, common for three dorm rooms and rather small for the number of the people, but seems that you make contacts easier. Bathrooms were rather few for the number of people that served. Some facilities could be better (washing, cooking). A bit strict in the hours of breakfast, and what allowed to choose. Stuff really friendly, helpful by any way. Location -- there is no way to be better. In the middle of Prague, just a block away from old square. Everything around -- sites, shops, nightlife. For easy-going, easy to socialize people is a very good hostel. Personally I have some of my best travelling days there! — Andrew (2006-07-22)

Great location but staff could be a bit more welcoming. Sometimes will ignore guests completely during shift changes. Rooms and bathrooms really vary in quality and ammenities, so ask for a look around first, if possible. Good sized lockers and beds. Never felt unsafe or that my belongings were at risk (but didn't leave them out, either). Bar upstairs is a nice touch with nice staff. One big plus is that they'll lend you items like travel guides, hair dryer, et cetera for a refundable deposit. Oh yeah, the place is kept pretty clean which is always appreciated! — Rebecca (2006-06-02)

I've been there two times.Great location, clean rooms and bathrooms...breakfast is after 8 o'clock, so if you're planning to go away early you won't have any...I'm a little bit upset after having read the comment by the robbed guy in August 2005. I stayed there two nights only, in August 2005 as well, and came back with 200 Euros less. But I thought I was robbed elsewhere. — Nu (2006-02-25)
This place is great if you want your entire backpack stolen! And then when you try to get some help from the staff, like looking at their security cameras, they get dodgy with you and make up some BS excuse. My eye was off my bag for 15 seconds, seriously! The way the guy at the front desk acted, nervous when I told him I wanted to call the police, I truly believe this was an inside job. Or at the very least it was a visitor who knew the ins and outs of that place because I was immediately in action, going down the only hallway there was. — Harvey Brickle (2005-08-14)

Great hostel, so close to everything. It's worth trying to get a bed in. I just turned up there and got one on the same day. — Mark, Uk (2005-06-11)
Beds were comfortable, breakfast was good and the location is close to the old town BUT the kitchen in Dorm 200 was not really accessible for all. And the WORST thing was that the place reeked of cigarette smoke. It was not in your rooms but we avoided the common room because the smoke was so thick.
We took a double room, which was two single beds (not the nice-sounding apartments!). The hot water didn't last long and was non-existent one morning (but you can't blame them for the plumbing breaking).
The old part of Prague is all tourists, so if you want to meet actual Prague people opt for elsewhere. — Ali (2005-05-19)
This was one of my worst stays anywhere in Europe. First off, they are totally under-staffed and completely disorganized. They lost our reservation and could not guarantee us beds unless we were in line around 10 a.m. every morning with bags in tow. This would have been fine after a decent night's sleep, but the dorms were way too crowded for that to be possible. This place attracts a lot of backpackers from STA and other huge, impersonal organizations. One night we woke up to 8 other roommates coming in from a train at 2 in the morning and of course they were rude and obnoxious. The breakfast was bare bones...and the atmosphere was as charming as a tatty communist-block. Avoid if possible...it's not worth the struggle with reception. — Emily (2005-04-29)

I stayed in one of the rooftop apartments in the hostel and was really impressed. It was simple but beautiful with a brand new kitchen and bathroom. It cost a fraction of staying somewhere of the same quality elsewhere. I would thoroughly recommend the apartments and in fact am staying again next month with three friends. (£16 a night each for a private apartment is an unbeatable deal). The location is absolutely amazing, too!!! — Nicola (2005-04-15)

I stayed here for four days in March in a four-bed room. I really enjoyed myself at this hostel. It's in a great location, only a few minutes walk to the Old Town Square and the Charles Bridge. The bar on the top floor is a great place to meet people, but it's poorly ventilated. Breakfast is pretty good; they have a few options, like yogurt and granola or cheese, meat and rolls. The staff were nice, very nice, and helped me book the next part of my trip. My only complaint about the hostel is that they did not vacuum the hostel once during my stay and the carpets in the room and hallways was a little gross. — TU Dave (2005-04-05)

I stayed here in the summer for a week. I thought it was a great hostel. However, we opted for the apartment on the top floor because there were three of us. I highly recommend paying 90 euros for three-bed private apartment. It is much better than the dorms. Also, it's just as good as a high-priced hotel room but it's half the price and you get a kitchen.
The location is amazing, right next to Club Roxy, and also five minutes from Charles Bridge and the city center. I had no problems even when we had to stay in the dorms for a night.
I found the staff to be very helpful. The only problem I found while staying here was the elevator was broken sometimes. I didn't mind hitting the stairs though. because of all the drinking and eating we were doing.
This hostel fitted our needs perfectly, for three young people trying to enjoy the clubs and nightlife and still see the attractions in the daytime. Also, it's near a 24-hour Mexican restaurant — too perfect for my Californian needs at 4:30 in the morning walking back from the club. — Ken Dizzle (2004-12-07)

I just got back home after a four-day stay and I have to say I had a phenomenal time! I stayed at a four-bed room, which may not have been the biggest room ever but it was spacious enough. And it had clean sheets and linen.
I have zero complaints about the staff because there really was no need for interaction with them whatsoever. If everything runs smoothly, why should there be? When I did need small things, they came through without a problem, so speaking from personal experience, they were good enough for me.
The elevator upon first glance looks ridden with bullet holes, but once you get past that lovely imagery, it works perfectly well. Now as for the bar...be very prepared when you go in the bar because chances are you may NEVER leave. The atmosphere is nothing short of addictive. Perhaps it was my luck but a group of the finest people ever was staying with me at the same time and we just made perfect chemistry and ended up spending all our nights together drinking at the bar or at club Bombay just down the street. The bar staff are really very nice, and they totally humiliate you at table football and love doing it.
Breakfast is included, and basically has everything you need. There were a couple of thefts I heard about in the dorms, but then people had lockers and didn't use them, so there you go.
Other things security related: the code to get in the hostel wings changes every day so that's good, and the rooms (at least mine) were very safe. The heating works and the showers were excellent.
One thing, try not to breathe as you walk up the stairs towards the door to each floor because something seriously has died in there.
The hostel's location is as good as it sounds and then some. Recommended with the highest of praise. — Eran from Tel-Aviv, Israel (2004-11-20)

It served its purpose. It has a small reception, but that is no problem if you're not in quite a rush. — Thomas (2004-10-25)
