The Hostelz.com Review
Sky Hostel is located the main road, closed to the main train station. Bus and tram are around there. It's easy to find. From the train station, follow the main road, you can reach the hostel in fifteen mintues' walk. From the hostel to the main square, it's a ten-minute walk. The location is quite good.
Since it's close to the main road, it's quite noisy when the tram or bus passes by.
Inside the hostel, around the lobby area, it's a bit dim. maybe because of the wall's colour (sky blue).
The atmosphere is ok, a bit quiet. You seldom see somebody sitting at the common area watching TV or playing games. Bedrooms, common room, kitchen, and bathrooms are quite clean. It's quite spacious in the kitchen and common area. At the common area, there's a TV, computer, and some games. Since they serve breakfast there, there are four sets of tables and chairs. Inside the kitchen, there's also a dining area. Bread or toast and tea or coffee are always avaible at the kitchen for free. The bad thing is they don't separate the bathroom and toilet for boys and girls. It's a bit inconvenient. But you can lock the room if you are taking a shower.
Overall, it's a good place to stay with your limited budget.

pros and cons It's very central, just a few steps to the market place and the staff is friendly. The rooms are ok, there are lockers and door keys. The problem are the showers and toilets as there are few and they are not separate. The breakfast is horrible and you have to wash the dishes yourself -- one can imagine how dirty they are the next morning but it's pricey. — Selma , Germany (2007-11-30)

Great location. Two minutes from the city center. There is a tram-station near the hotel from there you can travel to a big shopping mall and the Fantasy Park. Nice staff, always friendly. Rooms are good but the beds aren't very comfortable. Our room was on the street side. This side has nine rooms and they all have to share two bathrooms. So when there are many guests in the hostel you have to wait very long before you can take a shower. But the bathrooms are clean and that's more important to me. — Stacey , Holland (2007-04-21)

A perfect place to see the city center! Close to Market Square, to bus and tram station. The hostel is situated in two old buildings on the first floor. A small pretty garden separates these buildings. Breakfast is free and nice. It is cheap and clean. All staff working in the hostel is very friendly and helpful! To reserve the room is enough to send an e-mail. Thanks to all staff! A kind, big dog should be noticed especially. Clever and beautiful pet. — Olga (2007-03-30)

This hostel accepted reservation by simple e-mail and kept our reservation till 9 p.m. The hostel occupies the second floor of an old building on a main road of Krakow. Ask for a room which overlooks the inner courtyard, they seem quieter. Location is great, just five minutes walk from the main beautiful market square (centre of the city). All the people that we met at the reception during our stay ere extremely helpful and polite. Our double room was spacious and clean. Kitchen is small, but useful. laundry machine, internet, and brekafast are free! — Davide & Michela - Chiavari ( Ge ) Italy (2006-09-25)

Ask for the front section of the hostel, not the back. The front section of the building was nicely kept. However the back half of the building was very disappointing particularly after the hostel had so many great reviews. I've traveled quite a bit using hostels and this is the first time that I actually felt that I was getting what I paid for -- something cheap. Yes, the hostel is situated within a nice walking distance of the city center, though on the other side of the city from the castle and Jewish quarter. The staff is extremely nice. However the tour of Auschwitz was more than a rip off; they basically stole my money. I could have traveled to and from Auschwitz and taken the tour for less than half of what they charged me. Plus the driver went back before the tour of Birkenau. I didn't want to lose out on the biggest part of Auschwitz so I stayed behind and still had to pay my way back on the bus. When I complained to the manager he basically called me a liar. My room had cobwebs, the blankets had stains, the bathroom was disgusting. To top it off there are only two unisex showers and bathroom for the entire back floor. I would not suggest this hostel to anyone if they have to have a room in the back half of the hostel. — Becca (2006-09-01)

Nice hostel! It's clean and spacious. Staff are very friendly. It's noisy if your room's located on the main road. — Gillian (2006-07-10)

Four of us went to this hostel in January not having a very good impression of it from the photos on the website. Talk about surprise. It's clean, spacious, neat, and the bathrooms are excellent. The location is fabulous, the internet free, and the staff really, really lovely. We organised a trip to Auschwitz through them and they handled everything for us -- even down to snacks and drinks. The basement bar at the end of the block is pretty good, however being so close to the centre of Krakow, everything is within short walking distance. I definitely recommend this place if you're visiting Krakow. — Mysz (2006-03-19)

I have travelled around all Europe but you have never found a such wonderful hostel. So close to the city center, so nice and with people so friendly. I'm sure I'll come back there again soon. — mark brawler - rome- italy (2006-03-13)

This hostel was the best of five we stayed in during our trip around Czech republic, Poland and Hungary. Great location, the decor is fun, the beds are clean and very comfy, and the shower was also clean and very warm. Free Internet anytime and free use of the washing machine (with washing powder) was much appreciated. I re-iterate what other people said about the tours being a rip-off; two of our group went to Auschwitz by themselves for a quarter of the price, but having said that the staff were very helpful in telling them what buses/trains to get. If you're going to Krakow STAY HERE!!! — Laura (2005-09-26)

Brilliant place. The location is great, staff are friendly and helpful, it's very clean, has a great atmosphere and it's cheap!!! — Brian (2005-09-22)

Perfect location, clean bathrooms, very comfortable room, good price (4-bed private room at 12 euros for each person!) reservation by e-mail with no surprises, helpful staff and many other things . . . The staff girl that stays during the morning, Magda, is an angel. This hostel and Krakow are fantastic! — Francesco (2005-08-23)

The hostel was clean and comfortable and the staff were helpful and friendly. What more could you want? Well, for one thing the location was superb — it took literally 3 minutes to walk to the Rynek Glowny. Also there was a tram stop and a 24-hour shop nearby.
On the negative side, it was a little noisy and the "kitchen" was really just a fridge and a kettle.
They run tours to Auschwitz and Weiliczka. You can do both cheaper if you take public transport, but I took the one to Auschwitz and it was well-organized with an English-speaking guide, and it cost less than the ones run from the tourist info center. — Debra , UK (2005-08-23)

Sky Hostel is one of the best hostels I've been in. The staff are incredibly cool people. The facilities are excellent, and there is a great buzz about the place that I haven't experienced anywhere else. — Michael (2005-08-19)

Well-located. It's a bit grey and old, like the rest of Krakow, but it's clean and comfy. The people are friendly, and it has great facilities. I wouldn't advise taking their tour to Auschwitz; it's a rip-off, and there's no guide. — K (2004-08-30)

The hostel is within walking distance of the old town, has very friendly and helpfull staff, and is absolutely worth the money!! The organized tours are a bit expensive, though. — Mark (2004-08-23)
