The Hostelz.com Review
Wombat's City Hostel Munich is one of the Wombats chain hostels in Europe. They have a few branches in Munich, Berlin, and Vienna. The staff are nice and efficiently helpful with all our needs. The hostel is brightly colored and promises a fun environment.
The Location
Wombat's Munich is strategically located five minutes' walk from the Central Station. Even if you arrived by plane, there will be train/buses that will drop you off at the Central Station -- getting to Wombat's is very easy. It is also surrounded by many shops, supermarkets, cafes, and restaurants. Most of places of interests in Munich are also within walking distance or you can take a metro from the Central Station.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The hostel is divided into two sections -- Receptionists and Internet Area, which are open to everyone; and to the other guest-only area, which includes the Bar, Garden, and Rooms. You must use a special card-key to access to the guest-only area and the room. Private rooms and six- to eight-bed dorm rooms are offered. Each room is equipped with private locker and bathroom. There is also a table with chairs where you can sit down and chat or play cards in the room.
The bathroom is clean with hot and cold shower. Hooks are available in the bathroom, but a small rack to put soaps and shampoos would be much nicer.
Common Spaces
The two most interesting area in the hostel are the garden and the bar. Yes, Wombats has a nicely decorated garden where we can sit down and read the books provided or chat around or playing cards in the sunlit garden, or we can go to the in-house bar and have some drinks or snacks till late.
Since this hostel can host up to three hundred people a night, meeting other people is definitely a must. Be prepared, however -- they might not sleep as early or as late as you. Even though they remind you to keep quiet after 11 p.m., sometimes it is easily forgotten.
Summary
We loved our stay in the hostel with its garden and nice facilities. Almost everything you need in a hostel is already in there, especially if you are looking for some fun all day and all night.

Friendly, Clean, Close to München Hauptbahnhof Stayed in a mixed 6, there were power outlets with shelf and light at every bed, and a picnic style table in the room. Beds reasonably sized and comfortable enough (i'm 6'2). Keycard operated all security doors and also the individual in-room locker, neat. Wifi is free but only works in the lobby, boo. Staff are friendly and super helpful. The in-house bar is probably a little too fun, we ended up drinking a night away instead of taking more advantage of our limited time in Munich. — James, age 35, USA (2013-05-22)

Great place to stay Clean sheets, good beds, friendly staff, bar at Hostel is good to meet people. Breakfast was also good. Wifi only available in lobby, not it rooms. Not great air circulation in the bedroom (but it was summer time so I really can't complain there) but overall a great place to stay. — Brian, USA (2012-09-16)

Average at best Pros: Close to train station, lively bar, air conditioned atrium, very few old people and no school groups. Good key card security system. Helpful printouts to take with you for day trips like dachau or neuschwanstein. Cons: Only one electrical outlet in a six bed dorm and it's for the fan. I kid you not. One! That loses two stars alone right there. Wifi only in lobby. The maid turns off the fan every day. Dorm rooms are hot, drapes thin, beds thin, shower not impressive. All the mattresses are twin long and all their sheets are twin, have fun putting those on. And at 28 euros/night it's definitely overpriced. Conclusion: Try one of the neighboring hostels, there are a bunch on that same street. — Lucas, usa (2012-08-06)

Clean beds and friendly staff This place was good because it's super close to the train station, and walking distance to downtown. The staff was very friendly and knew a lot about how to get places in the area. There is a hostel bar which is cheap and good for meeting others, unfortunately it closes a bit early. The internet was not great (service was constantly interrupted) but for meeting others and having a clean bed it was good. I would stay there again. — Katie, USA (2012-08-05)

Fun and Charming! The Location was perfect specially for arrivals at night! the rooms are small but clean and comfy and what i like the most was the lounge area and the BAR, great atmosphere and the bargirls have attitude! — Cristobal, MEXICO (2012-05-28)

I liked it. Great place. Free wifi. Good location. Helpful staff and travel guides. Oz tour met in the lobby had amazing insight. Downfalls -- Bedrooms with windows into the terrace became very hot and stuffy at night. They need better air circulation. Also, the lobby is small and can be very crowded during check in times. — Justin, USA (2012-05-04)
Slow, slow, slow Receptionist I originally came to stay at this hostel, but the front check in person was so insanely slow and unorganized that I went to the hostel next door (There are several on the same street) to get helped. Hostel, as most are in Munich, is a major rip off. Find a grocery store and get drinks and food there. — ANano, USA (2009-06-13)

Large hostel but feels a little more homey than most large hostels. Four stars for this one because it is so well run. minus a star for still feeling somewhat like a large moneymaking hostel. the wintergarden is a nice touch but always occupied when i was there. breakfast is good and diverse for a picky eater. down side is the par is overpriced and closes early, but then again this is munich. go to a beer hall instead. literally steps away from the train station! — TJC, Canada (2008-07-29)
