It's a crying shame there are no other hostels in Dubrovnik. The service i received here was abysmal. I walked in the front door to find the girl at reception refusing to give someone who was leaving their passport back. The friendliness was the worst aspect. I think the reception staff hated everyone who came there. The kitchen had one stove with four (or maybe two) hot plates, and there was about two plates and a cup and fork in the cupboard. I stayed in 2004. I wrote to the Croat Hostel Association afterwards as i was so appalled, but they never acknowledged the email. This town is crying out for a good quality hostel so i fail to see why it hasn't eventuated.

this was an average hotel that was good because of the people staying there, not because of the staff who made us wait four hours before deciding if we could stay there or not. they also complained a lot about the 'loud' noise coming from the terrace which for me was just a lot of people talking. the location is tricky to find and the walk uphill with backpacks doesn't soften the blow.

I've been in this hostel in the middle of july 2006. Everything was ok, it was clean, the center is also by feet reacheable (at about fifteen minutes), price is ok, staff friendly.

We were very disappointed with this hostel. The guy who checked us in could barely acknowledge our existence. When we arrived to our rooms -- we found them dark, dingy, and cigarette butts on the floor. The loos were disgusting -- pubic hair and used loo roll everywhere -- had clearly not been cleaned in a few days. Showers were not much better. Being a YHA hostel, we had expected it to be basic but clean -- so we asked for our money back and the woman at the desk argued with us and made us wait while she checked out everything we told her, only for her to come back and argue there was nothing wrong with it. Apparently the cleaner had been off sick. We don’t mind roughing it -- but would you pay to sleep in that? Give it a miss and go to the Information Office at the Old Town and ask for recommendations. We ended up somewhere better.

The terrace is great! We had a nice little crew going on here when we stayed here. The beds were comfy and didn't have fleas. The dorms were pretty small, which was a blessing. But the location left something to be desired, though it was close to the beach. It was 25 minutes walk from the bus station and 20 minutes walk to downtown, in completely opposite directions. There is a cool cafe to eat breakfast at called the Moon Cafe with a great view of the ocean! And watch out for the lady that offers rooms for "80 kuna!!!" right before you get in the hostel. If you make eye contact with her or her sick dog, she will come towards you with a vengeance!

The location is ok, but a little hard to find. Some extra signing would help. The rooms are clean and comfortable and there are places to buy food at restaurants, etc., down the road. If you like walking, which I do, it'll take you about 10 to 15 minutes to walk into the old town center, nothing hard about that. The staff were also civil, but don't expect them to give you a hug and free breakfast. :) Overall worth staying at, and cheaper than the pensions people were touting.

The youth hostel is located in an alley (Vinka Sagrestana) off Bana Jela, some 15 to 20 minutes walk from the city center. I found the facilities rather standard: bunks with beds that are just too short for me to be comfy, a bathroom, a toilet and an outdoor terrace. And indeed, the staff are not exactly friendly and cheerful. This hostel is quite unlike the ones in Pula and Zadar. It may seem like this hostel is a backpacker's nightmare, but it's not. That's because you'll have a great time with people from all over the world and because Dubrovnik is a small but great town. It really is the backpackers that make this hostel a nice place, not the staff.

This hostel was excellent except for the owners who make you feel like you're an inconvenience to them! The facilities are great and the beds are very comfortable. The location is not bad; it's between the old town and the bus station, and both are around a 10 to 15-minute walk.
