Nice appearance but not that customer friendly This is a very pleasant and clean hostel although a little more like the functional hostels of old ... it is very much a youth hostel and not a backpackers hostel. There's a very large guests kitchen for preparing and eating your own meals although it seems a large number of guests opt to do this so it gets very busy. The dorms are clean with very comfortable beds and a small en-suite shower and toilet. The location of the hostel is excellent, next to Whitby Abbey on a hill overlooking the town and harbour although, if coming from town you should be aware that there are 199 steps to the top of the hill! I couldn't locate any wi-fi in this hostel which seems a bit odd in this day & age. Also there's a ban on bringing in your own beer, wine but they seem happy enough to sell it at inflated prices in the hostel shop which is rather means spirited, so they lose marks for that. Also at over £20 for a dorm bed its not especially cheap and they charge extra for towels on top of that! Cheeky! — Martin , UK (2011-09-16)
