Clean, that's it Two Stars. One for being clean, the other for the location and the young staff working there. Dorms are five single beds cramped into the double room-sized room. Have fun storing your packs. Lockout from the dorms (nice when it is raining like hell in Venice! You can't even wait at the reception area, because the female owner kicks you out so rude, that you are better off in the rain and cold than enjoying seeing her face. Makes money with us travelers, but has to learn that friendliness counts as well!). There is no kitchen, common room or else, no place to sit and chat or read. The place is only called a hostel, I imagine, because it offers shared rooms. Plus, you might be directed to another place, fifteen minutes' walk, owned by an older lady, who lacks being friendly and the responsibility of cleaning rooms and bathrooms, and sometimes changing sheets of beds for new arriving guests.

Location, Location, Location! To start, this hostel/hotel is a three-minute walk from the train station, excellent for backpackers with heavy packs. It wasn't noisy at all at night, and overlooks a beautiful square with a church in one corner. The doorway is a bit hard to find, but look for a bookstore on one side and it'll be there. Internet is offered and handy/easy to use. Air conditioning was heaven in the hot Venetian nights and bedding seemed clean and good. Our bathroom was outside the room and only accessible to us, clean and well-equipped. Room 313 has a tiny balcony (the only one in the whole place!) overlooking the square, which was very romantic. Lots of stairs however to get to your room, which is a bother. Don't forget to check out Brek, a cafeteria-restaurant with amazing prices and food, located a couple minutes down on the main street walking towards the train station. No kitchen facilities at all offered and no foyer/common room, so don't expect to hang around. Reasonably priced for Venice and lockout at 1 a.m. Friendly reception staff that do speak English.

Good location -- Easy to get to and nice staff. But a little pricey (i guess that's Venice!). We stayed in a five-bedroom room. No bunks, clean and spacious. The only downside was the church bells that went nuts, on the hour, every hour, during the day. Overall, a very nice place.

It is more like a hotel where you share the rooms, than a conventional hostel. Decent condition, close to the station, reasonable price given where it is.

I stayed here for two nights in May. I had a private room but want to say that the location is excellent, only a five- or six-minute walk from the train station. The staff were very friendly and the employee who unlocked the door to let me out at 6:15 a.m. to catch my train was only too happy to do so. Really enjoyed my stay here.

Great location -- a very short walk from the train station and near many shops and restaurants. The rooms (including the bathrooms) were very spacious and clean. The layout of the hostel rooms (though providing privacy) doesn't allow for too much social activity with the other visitors.

When I went to the reception of Alloggi Gerotto Calderan, I was redirected to a house owned by an old lady which is a bit far from the rail station. Although the room is small and there is not much facilities, the price, twenty-five euros, is great in Venice and you cannot complain much with that price.

Good. Very close to the train station and in the lovely neighborhood of the Jewish ghetto (don't let the name fool you.) The receptionists were very helpful and even resisted the urge to immediately speak in English with me, which I was thankful for. The dorms were very clean, no bunkbeds, nightstands, a closet with hangers and a bathroom IN the room. There's internet and vending machines downstairs but no breakfast or common room, so this place isn't the most social hostel to stay in. Venice certainly isn't the cheapest place to stay, but I found 23E a good price.

The reason why I gave 4 and not 5 stars to this place was just because it's not really a hostel, but a small hotel with some dorms, meaning that there's no social life at all. This is not that bad anyway in Venice, as after a whole day walking you don't have any more batteries left! And also, everything closes ad from 10 pm. You only get to meet the people in your room, which by the way is spotlessly clean, and with a newly decorated bathroom.
I paid 25 euros a night. There is no common room, only a tiny reception. There's a computer, but you pay 2 euros for only 30 minutes and there's a coffee vending machine.
The location is perfect as it's just 5 minutes from the station. In a place like Venice this is a must, as it's so easy to get lost in those alleys, mostly if you arrive at night as I did.

I was happy to find this hostel close to the train station, and it was also very nice and clean. It doesn't serve breakfast, and also there is not much social life going on. But the rooms were nice and the bathroom was as well. All you need for 23 euros.

The location of the hostel is great — easy to find, close to the train station and on a main street with lots of shops. The price of 25 euros was what we were expecting for Venice. We stayed in an eight-bed dorm room, the beds were packed in but it was nice to have a break from bunk beds. This hostel/hotel doesn't have many facilities but it is good if you want a bed for the night and a hot shower.

My fiancé and myself stayed here for two nights in April 2005. I was a bit concerned before we got there. We were on a budget and Venice is not cheap!!! I found that the reviews for the hostels in Venice made me decide I did not want to stay in them. I also did not want to stay outside of the city. I wanted to be in the city. So I checked out this place. The reviews were mixed but I took a chance. They only had a double room for us at the time of reservation and that was fine. We stayed mostly in hostels during our stay but also in one other one-star type hotel.
The room was small but clean. The bathroom was really clean and nice. Sure the walls in the room could have looked better but it was an old building. Our bedspread was ugly but clean! We had a sink in the room, which was really nice. The wall facing the square had a huge window. We watched a mime playing tricks on tourists from the big window. It was nice. This place was also very easy to find. You literally turn left out the train station and walk until the next plaza and there it is! The staff were very friendly. They let us store our bags before and after check out time. Many other people had done this, too. I don't think I could have gotten any luckier than to have found this place. Venice is a tourist trap and this hotel was perfect. I was able to stay in Venice in a nice room at a decent price. What more could you ask for!!!

Very clean, and friendly. Space was a bit tight, but that was ok. Breakfast isn't served, but there's a great place down the street. Curfew and lockout were the only bad thing.

This place is more like a hotel than a hostel. The rooms are beautiful and clean. See if you can get a balcony! It may seem a little expensive when compared to other European hostels, but I think this place is semi-cheap for Venice. The location is great and the staff are super friendly. The 12:30 a.m. curfew kind of sucks, but there isn't much to do at night in Venice anyway. It also sucks that you can't bring booze into the room, BUT if you have a private room you can sneak it in. ;) I would definitely stay here again.
