We ended our vacation staying at this place and what a great Hostel! The host met us at the door and gave us coffee and tea and some muffins so we could unwind after our drive. He also recommended places to eat and things to do in the evening. This was all relayed in a cheerful manner even though I'm sure he gives this speech on a daily basis! The rooms were big and clean. Free wireless internet access -- just need to ask as it is set up secure. Definitely recommend staying here if you don't want to stay in the heart of Dublin. It was close to the airport so easy for us to head out the next day.

I stayed in the Frederick in November of 2004, and I thought it was wonderful. The staff was the friendliest I have met at any hostel. It was very clean, the bathroom was compact but larger than I'd expected. It was something like five blocks from the bus station we arrived at, and if you follow the main road that it is on, it takes you through and to all the touristy areas. It sits on the same road as the tourist buses, and it is fairly close to all the touristy things I wanted to do. I liked that it was a couple extra blocks away from all the noise, because I really appreciated the sleep I was able to get. I felt very safe -- and my room had a nice view!

Well we stayed here -- gang of eight of us. We have never had such a friendly welcome to Dublin and we visit each year. Bedrooms were clean and tidy. Not sure about the pictures on the wall though ha ha. We will be staying there again this year.

I have to say staff at the Frederick were friendly and helpful but the room we stayed in was very unappealing even for a hostel. We didn't see other rooms so don't know what they were like but I wouldn't go back to the Frederick again as the room was pretty ordinary and the hostel was a bit removed from the city centre. We also got lost walking back to the hostel on one occasion and ended up walking into what appeared to be a potentially dangerous area of Dublin. I say this as a heads up for people considering staying in the area because the area we wandered into was unmarked on all the tourist maps and we really didn't stray far from the main route. I'd check out other accommodation before choosing the Frederick Hostel.
