Hostelz.com's Review
Youth Hostel Schaan-Vaduz is a quiet building, hidden away on the back streets of Vaduz, the capital town of Lichtenstein.

The Location

Looking out over farm fields and pastures towards the Rhein and mountains, you won't find much noise or excitement here. If you want a very peaceful location, this is an excellent hostel. It isn't very difficult to find, as there are signs along the roadway. However, you will have to follow several side streets. Additionally, the roads get very dark after sunset, so it isn't recommended to walk back after night alone. The hostel is a five-minute walk from the Lichtenstein public bus stop, and a twenty-minute walk from the town of Vaduz.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The dorms rooms in this hostels are sparse and institutional. Lockers accompany each bed, so you can lock your belongings at night. The bathrooms can be found on every floor and are large and not the cleanest. The hostel has four floors of dorm rooms that contain three sets of bunk beds, a small table and chair, and cubbyholes. The beds all have the standard bedside light, ladder, and quilt. Sheets are provided free of charge.

Common Spaces

The common spaces here are minimal and not really used. This is not a socially oriented hostel -- the guests consist more of families traveling through Lichtenstein -- this makes a quiet atmosphere. The common space consists of the breakfast room, where the complementary and hearty buffet breakfast is served. There's a small shop (a few shelves in the corner) where you can purchase chocolate, postcards, and other sundries.

Summary

Overall, the hostel is a bed and a place to sleep while passing through Lichtenstein. Come here if you want a clean, simple, and convenient place to stay cheaply during your time in Lichtenstein. So long as you are not expecting the social-hangout type of hostel, this hostel will fit your needs perfectly.

Schaan-Vaduz FL Youth Hostel Reviews from the Web
Hostelz.com Guest Reviews
1   Rude staff, hard to find Indifferent staff (though fluent in many languages), reception closes at 10 p.m., though this is not publicised when making a reservation. They've cornered the market in the country for budget accommodation however, so either make a day trip from Switzerland or put up with it. Great breakfast though.  , Australia ()
3   It lacks atmosphere, far from the centre Our six-bed room was a little bit crammed. The lockers were outside in the corridor. It is a pity that check-in is from 5 p.m., but it is possible to put your luggage somewhere in a room. Breakfast was good. The common area, downstairs, lacks atmosphere. It was nice they had a water cooker so you can make your own coffee or tea. The hostel is situated between Vaduz and Schaan and it is very far to go to the centre.  , Dutch ()
3   Ordinary There's one very important piece of information left out from the hostel's website and any booking confirmation they send you -- reception is closed daily between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., so if you arrive between those times there's no chance of checking in or storing your things securely until you can check in. There is a luggage storage room downstairs, but you need a 2 FR coin to operate the locker, not something a lot of travelers will have immediately after arriving in a new country. It may not even be possible to get to the room without a staff member to direct you there (we lucked out and stumbled across a surly woman sitting in the laundry -- we're still wondering why she couldn't have been manning reception). We couldn't find directions on the hostel website about how to locate the hostel from the post-bus stop. Look out for the street signs directing you to a hostel/campsite. Also a hassle is the fact that the lockers are located outside each dorm room -- bizarre and annoying. Despite the ridiculous arrangements with reception, the rooms and bathrooms are clean, the breakfast is plentiful and bike hire is cheaper from the hostel than in town (of course, you can't collect a bike until 5 p.m., resulting in a very short hire period!). And, of course, if you want to stay in a Liechtenstein youth hostel, this is pretty much your only choice!  , Australia ()
4  It was good. The showers could be better, the rooms were a bit crowded, free locker, the dinner was expensive but on the other hand, the breakfast was good. Reasonably clean and really quiet. Don't expect it to be a party hostel. A good choice.  ()
5  The hostel is located near the border of the towns of Schaan and Vaduz, about a 25 minute walk from the tourist center of Vaduz, and about a seven-minute walk from the nearest Post bus stop. As a family of five, we were given two private rooms with our own bath overlooking pretty agricultural fields and mountains beyond. The building is very new and lies at the edge of town, very quiet and safe. It's the only hostel I've been to where I walked by a home with a Lamborghini parked out front on the way from the Post bus stop! Exceptionally clean, and very quiet midweek. Apparently the place fills often on weekends with Swiss groups, so be warned. Clean sheets included in the price. Close to bike trails and a large swimming pool complex. Good buffet breakfast — standard all you can eat Swiss hostel food.  ()
