The Hostelz.com Review
Located directly opposite the main bus-station in Kuala Lumpur, the Pudu Hostel is extremely well located. It is right in the heart of the city and close to many of the main attractions. Chinatown (with its famous night-markets) is a short walk along the street and the KL Tower and Petronas Towers are within walking distance too. Buses and the light-rail system stop close by.

The air-conditioned Pudu hostel occupies the upper floors of a multi-story building; the ground floor is home to a very convenient 7-Eleven store, and there is also a cheap internet cafe within the building (further discounted rates for Pudu guests). There is a lift but it is quite slow and shaky so the stairs are probably a better option!

The hostel owner is very friendly and is keen to help you make the most of your trip in the city. The hostel facilities aren't bad and are quite good compared to other hostels in the area. There is a choice of room sizes, all at very reasonable rates. The cheapest dorms are cramped and without windows but that is the norm for SE Asia and if it is a problem to you, larger and private rooms are available. The bathrooms are relatively clean as are the common areas, although smoking is allowed inside the building. Facilities include TV area and small cafe, open for breakfast and evening meals. There are no self-catering facilities although with a huge range of cheap restaurants and good street vendors practically on the doorstep, it would hardly be worth the effort of cooking anyway.

Worth noting is that the hostel doesn't accept credit/debit cards (at the time of writing this review) so make sure you have some cash on you. The nearest ATM is located across the road in the bus-station.

5  Love you Pudu Hostel I stayed in pudu hostel for ten days in june 2009, great hostel. very friendly staff, good rooms. trust me no bedbugs, good air con. everything is near, like bus stand, chinatown, kfc. best hostel to stay, value four money.  , india ()
1  Do stay if you enjoy a cell Being hot and tired i checked in for the night, and man, what a dreadful place! My room, two meters by two meters, was worse than a prison cell, at least you get bars for a view and a toilet! The toilet I first stumbled into didnt flush and the remains of the last person was looking at me. The decor in the lounge looked like it was created by a dude that had one too many bad acid trips, I mean lime green and powder blue -- help! The staff were bored and apathetic and I had to ask for a towel and there was not a bed sheet on offer -- miserable.  , NZ ()
2  Weird Ideology and methodology being adapted I stayed here five years back for ninety days. i just transfered from Sarawak to KL and i got no house yet. The double room got no bedbugs and the counter guy can say a bit friendly. Today i called in to check in for two months due to my house being renovated. but they say sorry, we don't accept locals! Is there such rules abide by our government law not to allow locals? I have checked with Malaysia Budget Hotel Association (MBHA), and they have told me that there is no such rules for their association. I even emailed to the secretary of the Ministery of Consumer, and Malaysia does not have any act for this kind of rules. What happen Pudu Hostel?  , Malaysia -Sarawak ()
1  A disgusting place -- home for chain smokers i took one step in and the next out. Don't bother with this place if you are a non-smoker!  , germany ()
1  We stayed here for five nights and had our moneybelt in the safe at the counter. Then when we got it back one credit card and two bank passes were missing! I think the guy with the long hair robbed us! So don't go here. I heard that two months ago it also happened to two girls who lost RM400. Be wise, stay away.  ()
4  Stay at Pudu! Value for money! Perfect location, super friendly and helpful staff, and fast internet connection. Pudu provides you all you need!  ()
5  value for money. i had really enjoyed staying there. really helpful staff and friendly. pudu has it all. there is nothing wrong with that hostel -- it's really great.  ()
2  We stayed here in Sep. 2006. The air con had broken on the fifth floor which, unbeknown to us, means the bedbugs come out to play. We battled with them in various ways for a few hours, then admitted defeat and asked to be swapped to another room, which was actually pretty nice (air con worked -- no sign of bugs). So, to sum up -- ok facilities, quite dirty, but good location -- the internet cafe downstairs is great -- cheap and fast.  ()
3  i had been stayed in pudu for three nights. but i never saw any mushroom or bedbugs.  ()
1  This was the worst hostel i have ever been to. The floor in the rooms was slimy and sticky, the beds were rusty and made terrible noise, the whole room seemd more to be a prison cell then a hostel room. The toilets were dirty and an awful smell of excrements was in the air all the time. Only one shower worked and the wall was full of mushrooms! Oh man if this is true backpacking then i quit! How many U.S. dollars they paid to lonely planet to rate this place as "authors choice"?  ()
1  When Bedbugs die then go to Pudu Disgusting. Dirty, cramped, full of bedbugs, and the staff are equally as filthy.  ()
3  Stayed in Pudu Hostel for 2 nights, met many fantastic people, had great fun with the staff and enjoyed watching vcd's at night :) Many people were complaining about the bed bugs though, Guess I have been lucky not to find any in my bed... Yes, the place is quite dirty at some spots..the rooms are not too comfortable, but hey, it's cheap, right across KL's main bus station, near the 7/11 supermarket and next to Chinatown... Hell, what does a man need more?? Oh yeah, don't take the elevator upstairs, man, that thing sounds dangerous....like a metal factory.  ()
3  We got bedbug bites, and there were never really clean bathrooms, but man, those guys downstairs are AWESOME! The staff are just the greatest hotel staff I have ever met. Unfortunately, having stayed there a month I can say the customers weren't half as cool. Probably for the money the best place to stay in Kuala Lumpur.  ()
3  A death trap! The fire exits are all blocked with a heavy iron grille door. If there's a fire you're going to be roasted alive!!  ()
3  My family (wife and my 2-year-old daughter) stayed here three weeks back for three nights. At least they have changed all the beds, mattresses and pillows and the rooms are newly painted. I'm not sure if they have debugged the whole place but we never had any problem with our room.  ()
