Life House Hostel is only a place to stay for a couple of nights or for long term. It's a great place to meet people, since most people are hanging around the place at the pool, in the common areas, or in the kitchen cooking. The walls in the common area are filled with flags and paintings and the kitchen is filled with people's comments on their stay. The staff are helpful in giving any information about Mendoza and surrounding areas, which is good for when you arrive to the city. They also speak English very well.
The Location
The hostel is located in a good area, only about five minutes' walk from the main shopping areas. It's set on a semi-main street that is safe and quiet at night. A supermarket is around the corner, about five minutes' walk away from the center. There is a swimming pool at the hostel, which is an added bonus -- however it is usually very busy.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The dorms are basic. They are bland, with basic single beds and sheets that look like they have not been painted or repaired since the place opened a long time ago. Security in the hostel appears fine as long as you lock your personal items up. The bathrooms are all shared and located at the end of the hall unless you rent a private double room with bathroom. Showers and bathrooms were always available.
Common Spaces
The common areas are excellent to meet people since there are many open spaces -- living room, kitchen, and outside. The kitchen is big, however it is not clean and people usually do not clean their own dishes. There are not enough cooking supplies either and the kitchen is usually busy. Breakfast is served in the kitchen from 7 to 10 a.m. and consists of coffee or tea and two medialunas (Argentinian croissants) each. There are two free computers for guests to use -- however they are usually busy and very very slow.
Summary
Overall, we did not like this hostel. The atmosphere is loud and the rooms do not feel clean and tidy (and don't seem to have been renovated or cleaned since they opened a long time ago). The workers, however, are friendly and very helpful in giving any information you may need.
