The Hostelz.com Review
Three Black Catz is in a great location and super friendly. The manager greets guests with tea, coffee, or alcohol and goes out of his way to make sure everything is good.

The Location

This hostel is centrally located to everything in Belgrade. It's half a block from the main square and right off the pedestrian shopping street. There's a small sign on the street level near the entrance to the building and other signs in the building leading to the hostel door. A small elevator takes you to the fourth floor where the hostel is located. It's easily accessible from the bus or train station either by walking or by tram.

Rooms and Bathrooms

This is a small hostel with only two rooms -- a six-bed dorm and a four-bed dorm. There are lockers in the six-bed dorm and lockers in the hall for the four-bed dorm. All of the beds are bunk beds supplied with clean sheets, blanket, and pillow. There is only one bathroom for everyone staying at the hostel. The bathroom is very spacious and is pretty clean. The shower has very poor water pressure, so showers tend to take longer.

Common Spaces

There is a small kitchen and sitting/tv area including a computer with free internet access. The kitchen has two electric elements, an electric kettle, a microwave, and a fridge in desperate need of a cleaning. The hostel manager goes out of his way to make sure everyone has everything they need and are happy. The hostel is very conducive to socializing. It feels more like an apartment for a lot of people than a hostel. There is also a small book exchange and guide books for reference.

Summary

This is a nice place to stay in central Belgrade. It's a very friendly, homey-feeling hostel.

5 Fantastic
I stayed at the Three Black Catz off and on from last January to June. Out of the hostels in the twenty-four countries I've visited the Three Black Catz is without a doubt the best hostel I've come across. Situated right off the main square downtown it is surrounded by bars and cafes, including a small bar hidden right downstairs from the hostel. Mladen and the staff are some of the most welcoming and helpful people you will ever meet. They exhibit a unique patience and sense of humor with the guests who spend hours uploading and downloading on the Wi-Fi and who at times confuse right from left when they come back drunk from Belgrade's intense clubbing. The hostel's atmosphere feels like home and it is perfect for exploring the rest of Belgrade.

5 I lived at the TBC for an entire month and it was absolutely amazing.
Honestly, it's not the most posh of hostels (but what true hostel is?). Everything is basic, but what makes the TBC special is the people. Everyone who works there is great, the owner, Mladen, is a blessing and really wants you to have a good time (when you walk in, just ask for a shot of Rakija and he will hook you up). There are plenty of resources at the hostel to open your eyes to the gems of Belgrade. It is the cheapest place around and won't disappoint. If you have any problems, questions, they will all be acknowledged. You will learn how to make a mean cup of Turska Kava/Srpska kava, too!

5 Great Experience!
I was a little surprised when I arrived to find that Three Black Catz is more an apartment than a standard hostel but what a great place to stay. It is like being in a flat with a bunch of great people from all over the world, tasting local food, local wine, and watching local DVDs. It has a great location, Mladen (the host) and his friends were wonderful and very helpful, and I had a simply superb time. If you are looking for a spotless, characterless hostel where you are just one of many then don't even think about this place but if you want a real local experience, cosiness, and a truly relaxed atmosphere then I thoroughly recommend this hostel.

4 I was there about four years ago with my fiance but I still remember it like it was probably a year ago. I just loved it! The staff was great and the environment. and some day I hope to go back to beautiful Belgrade. They have good meat!

5 We spent the new year eve there, and about a week in three black catz hostel. It was great! People, atmosphere, location, and staff. The owner, Mladen, is the best guy in Belgrade. The sheets, bathroom, towels, and rooms were clean. Will definitely go back there as soon as possible. The hostel is legendary for its atmosphere and fun twenty-four/seven. If you aren't staying there, you can always go there and just hang around with people.

4 I would go back. It feels and looks like a student house. We had some great nights at the dining table. Easy going atmosphere. Facilities are quite poor, but whatever, it works! Location is just perfect, right in the city centre of the old part of Belgrade. And oh, I didnt see any cats. They must have left the building.

4 This place feels as though you arrived in a share house flat, where friends of friends are hanging around the dining table playing music that you like and ready to make you a cup of coffee for you or share their beer. It's definitely communal living, with the generosity that goes with that, but also the long bathroom waits and hot and stuffy rooms, cramped kitchen and little privacy. You have to be in the mood for a cramped but atmospheric stay, and I wouldn't guarantee a full night's sleep, but if you can handle that, then you will love it. Beats sterile IH hostels hands down.

4 Hey, I have to say I liked too much the hostel. I really feel comfortable in there and for me this is the most important. I recommend to people to go there if they are planing to visit Belgrade.

1 Friendly, informative guy until his girlfriend arrived then he became rude and unhelpful and his girlfriend sat in the corner glaring and giving out vibes that she did not like me. I am not used to sharing my bathroom with a moggy or mould! No lock on the door, and a tray full of cat sh*t. When I said they are not black, I see two cats that were "not" black, she rudely replied, if a hostel was called three pink alligators, would you expect to find three pink alligators? and her attitude was so spiteful. One step above sleeping rough, probably more bed bugs. Would not help with the currency or the internet. So I went off without paying, hard luck!!!

3 The owner guy was young, cool, and friendly. It is in a great location, but I got tons of itchy red bumps from it. I don't know if it was the sheets, obnoxious cats, or what, but if you stay here bring your own sheets!

5 I stayed here two nights and I've never found such a relaxed atmosphere in a youth hostel. The owner is really helpful and the location is directly in the center, so everything can be seen by walking. I really felt at home at this place. The only disadvantage is that it has no breakfast included, but for the price of 12 euro it should be included, in my opinion.

1 Sorry but I did not enjoy the Three Black Catz hostel at all. I was too scared of catching something to even brush my teeth, and the bathroom — urgh! To get the picture, imagine: 1) No lock on the door 2) The bath is coated with mould, which is coated with dirt, which is coated with more mould. 3) When you enter the bathroom, avoid the cat litter tray (it needed emptying BADLY) 4) No sink in bathroom. 5) WHY was there a bucket with a watermelon by the toilet? Why was the cat drinking the water? Why was the cat in the bathroom with me? The night I was there, they had overbooked, so two girls had to share a very small bed (though they did know each other) Oh, and the place stinks of cat pee. It did have a nice friendly atmosphere though, but I think new infectious diseases could be created from within its kitchen. The staff were also friendly (until they left the country! — I kid you not). Anyway, if you want to have a laugh, and don't need to shower, brush teeth, change, pee, and don't mind cats jumping on you at night (yes, that happened several times) then by all means go to the Black Catz. Otherwise I'd check out a local hotel — I hear they are very cheap.

2 When we arrived it was late in the evening, and even though they had accepted our booking for two people they only had one bed, as the other was riddled with bedbugs. As for the mangy cats, they seem to rule the place so cat hair gets everywhere. Needless to say we ended up staying in a hotel.

2 I arrived after travelling overnight from Sofia, a hard journey. The hostel was booked for the next few days. I asked if they could recommend anything else. I got a straight no, sorry. But I went to a lot of trouble finding the hostel. No problem that they didn't have a bed at 8.30 a.m., but they could have at least tried to help me with a clue as to how to get somewhere else, i.e. directed me to a tourist office, hotel or something. The guy had no interest in helping me, although I had come along way to stay at his hostel. It wasn't easy to find either. The only sign anywhere in Belgrade was the 2-cm. sign on their front door. This hostel is on the 4th floor of an apartment building that is off the street. And there isn't even a sign on the buzzer at the bottom of the building. Poor show. I just left Belgrade immediately. The Stasi police who were waking people up by bursting into the sleeper compartments all night were bad enough. This was the icing on the cake. I won't be back to Belgrade. Budapest got my tourist dollars.
