The Hostelz.com Review
City Lodge Stockholm is a very cozy hostel, with an excellent location at a 10 minute walk from Stockholm main railway station. The premises are pretty small and the owner is planning an expansion. It comprises a small reception and a basement where the lobby, rooms, a kitchen, laundry, toilets, and showers are located. There are not many rooms in the hostel so rooms are a little crowded with dorms.

The hostel is very well cleaned and kept and offers free internet, which is a great advantage. There is a TV set with cable in the lobby. Linen and towels are available at a cost and the kitchen only has one microwave for cooking. Breakfast is not offered.

The staff are simply adorable. They will do anything to make sure you are satisfied. Also, they have a curious practice that is not to allow people to enter the hostel with their shoes. Everybody has to take off shoes upon entrance. Security is a permanent concern and the front door and reception door are both locked at night with electronic seals that only open upon submittance of a PIN number which is given to you upon registration.

2 Clean, friendly staff, free internet -- but nothing else!
I've been there in July and it was so hot there because all the rooms are downstairs without windows or air conditioning! Yes it was clean and it looks nice but I think there is no atmosphere, and you can't really cook in the kitchen because there is only one microwave and nothing else. I will never stay there in the future in the summer and I think in the winter, too.

3 Fine
I stayed here for 2 nights in July. I stayed in the large dorm on the ground floor. The good thing was the curtains on the bottom bunks because it gave you good privacy. There are good showers and toilets. There's no breakfast unless you pay. The staff are pretty good. There's free internet in a nice common room. But it is a bid weird because there are no windows anywhere. Everything was really clean. I quite liked the shoes off rule, it helps keep it clean inside.

2 Poor rooms and kitchen
We tried out two rooms as the hostel was overbooked and we were asked to move around. Both rooms had no window at all and the ventilation was rather poor to non-existent. Some fellows with no idea of how to use a shower brought a nice smell of smelly feet to the room and a very high room temperature did not give a comfortable sleep. If you are good in preparing pasta in the microwave oven, you'll like the kitchen, but I prefer hot plates and a stove. A funny thing is that they have three fridges for the staff and one for all guests -- just a bit crowded in there. The location itself is great, no question. Close to the main station and shopping facilities nearby, but that doesn't make the overall impression good.

2 Retirement House
This hostel has a few really good things going on for it. Great location, clean, free internet. But it has this clinical feeling to it, and most of all it is boring! Don't expect much party while you are there! Plus, some of the staff were really cheap and unhelpful. Michael was great though. Bottom line if you are looking for a decent bed and shower, look no further, but if you expect more of a backpackers, move on.

5 It's great hostel. Clean, friendly personnel and not far from center and train station.

2 I loved Stockholm, but I'm now suffering nearly one hundred fifty bed bug bites after my stay at the City Lodge. The worst is that the hostel has not contacted me after I notified them of the infestation. Who knows if the problem's fixed?

4 This hostel is great. The location is central, close to train station/bus station. Perfect if you like to stay close to all the shops. Friendly staff who I'm glad to say actually kicked people out in the middle of the night who were smoking in the toilets which is against the rules. Small but cosy and well worth the price.

4 I enjoyed my stay here. I met many nice people, and if you have a problem, you may ask the owner, Jerry, any time. You feel good here, because you can wash your clothes, you can cook in the kitchen, store your food in the fridge, have access to the Internet all the time or stay in the community room. And many other things too! The big minus is that you don't have a view, because the rooms are in the basement.
