Check your rate Upon arrival at the Ostello Gallo D'Oro the traveler feels welcome. No rush at the check in and you are greeted with a small bottle of water or a cup of coffee, guess depending how tired you look. It is a real hostel, with kitchen, common room, breakfast and nice, clean rooms. The owners are very helpful, even make phone calls for you to set your reservation for the next hostel up or make sure you will have a table at the restaurant you want to have dinner. Free internet and wifi and a lot of other convenient things are there. You ask why I don't give 5 stars? Answer, I stayed at a 5 bed dorm with bathroom inside and paid 25€ (April 08). An Italian who called but never showed up was told he would pay 27€ and the American student, sharing the same room at the same time with me paid 30€ a night! The price policy in Italian hostels amazes me every time. Check what you pay when you stay there!! — opb.travel (2008-05-02)

Sylvia and Max made it perfect I stayed here about ten days in July 2007. Elevator to second floor. Small enough to be friendly, large enough for comfort. I was in three-bed room, large enough with own bath. Clean, hot water, and big enough for comfort. We asked for fan as was hot at night. Only two computers, but no problem, people seemed to rotate well. Large dining area but no real common room. Convenient to get around. I walked everywhere. Really, Sylvia and Max just made the stay outstanding. I would stay there again and recommend it to anyone of any age. — Dinah , USA (2008-01-19)

Max and Silvia are the most wonderful hosts you can imagine. This hostel is clean and safe, with lovely breakfasts and company! The owners speak great English and are very friendly, extremely helpful in navigating the city. If you don't have much Italian under your belt, this place is for you! We stayed there for a month with a class and I couldn't have asked for more. — Kati (2007-01-08)

I have been travelling for over three months through Europe, and this was undoubtedly the best hostel i have stayed at. Clean, comfortable, and not overly crowded rooms, with en-suite. Great breakfast to wake up to, even with an delicious espresso to begin your day! but what makes this place so fantastic is the amazing people who run the place, so lovely and helpful to everyone that passes through (they even had a dinner with beautiful pasta and wine for us one night). — James (2006-09-24)

If you dream up what the best hostel experience could be in your mind, it wouldn't come close to Ostello Gallo D'Oro. My friend and I were exhausted and getting used to be treated quite badly in hostels when we arrived at this hostel. Then -- a miracle! Our bags were carried to our room by the man behind the desk who noticed how tired we were. Our three-person room had an en-suite bathroom and we each had our own locking armoir to unpack our belongings (which smelled as though they'd been kept in damp lockers for two weeks). The next day after a grueling day of being tourists we were greeted by the owner and persuaded to sit down, drink his wine, eat his cheese, and mingle with the other guests. Although we were there for only four nights, this was the hostel where we made the most significant friendships. — Whitney (2006-06-22)

It is impossible to find a nicer place with nicer people! Ideal! — Natalae (2005-07-24)

I went to Florence in April 2003. Many hostels were booked already, but I managed to find lodging in Gallo D'Oro. I was pleasantly surprised. The lady there was very nice and went out of her way to make us comfortable. Breakfast was superb, with superb cappuccino. The rooms are very also very clean. I felt it was worth every cent I paid. Not the nearest to the train station, but still worth staying at definitely! — Timothy (2005-05-13)

I went there in August 2004. The place is really clean, well located and the breakfast is excellent! Good deal. — Simon Geremys (2005-02-12)

The staff are fantastic! — Marc (2004-08-28)
