This is the cheapest way to stay in Berlin, and it's great if you like camping. Pitch your own tent or sleep on a cot in one of the big "dorm style" tents on the site (with about 15 people per tent). If you sleep in one of their tents they include blankets and a foam mattress, or for €1.50 more you can sleep in a bed.
There are bathroom facilities with hot water, a game tent, and a kitchen. And with the free internet computers, you're not exactly isolated from civilization. There's also a cafeteria with snack items if you don't want to walk into town to get something to eat. There are campfires in the evening and it has a relaxed, social atmosphere.
The location is just off a main road in a business and residential area. It takes about 45 minutes to get to the center of Berlin (by metro plus a bus ride to the site (or a 10-15 minute walk). The distance from the center of town is the biggest drawback to staying here. But other than that, it's a very nice and inexpensive alternative to a regular hostel. Reservations aren't necessary except for large groups.
