The Hostelz.com Review
Levir Hostel is a great value for the money! They do not accept credit cards, however, there are two ATM machines within a block (next to the metro station and grocery store). A twenty-four-hour public transportation card is good on all forms of public transportation within the city.

The Location

The location is hard to find if using GPS (it took us about two hours), however, it is one block from the Florenc metro station in Prague District 8. If you decide to drive, ask about "safe" parking at the reception. We paid for parking and our car was locked in a garage, so to speak. We had access to it and it was very secure.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The rooms are situated in what looks like an apartment. One section was the original bedroom and the rest of the apartment was renovated to become a hostel. The rooms are rather big. The beds are not made upon arrival. There is a pro and a con to this -- pro, you know the sheets are clean; con, you have to make the bed. We were on the third floor and it had a WC, three bathrooms with showers, and one bathroom was just a tub. The arrangement makes getting dressed a breeze and there is never a wait. Each bathroom is supplied with soap and toilet paper. There is plenty of hot water available twenty-four hours a day!

Each room is locked with a key. You will be given three keys upon check in (there is no additional deposit for this) -- one key is for the front door, one key is for your apartment door, and the last key is for your room door. There are no lockers in the room but the reception can hold anything of value for you.

Common Spaces

The common area consists of a kitchen with a TV. Neither the stove nor the range work, but there is a fridge and microwave. Dishes and dishwashing liquid are available for your use.

Summary

There is no lock-out or curfew at Levir Hostel. The only bad thing is that the rooms are not cleaned daily and the trash is not emptied. There is no shortage of heat, which is nice because it gets pretty cold at night. We would stay here again, especially now that we know where it is!

4 Just very good
Incredibly decent and well-arranged (ok for sure without all the "luxury" requested from some people) hostel with an excellent location and good prices (we've paid 12 Euro per night per person in a mixed-dorm). Kitchen with fridge and microwave plus two bathrooms and WC on the floor for three or four rooms -- it was just great. Ten- to fifteen-minutes walk from the central square in prague. I hope you enjoy it too. For sure we go again there next time.

3 All in all, this hostel is an acceptable place for a short stay and big groups. The Hostel is situated near a metro-station and it only takes a fifteen-minute walk to the center. There are no closing-times, so that you can get in twenty-four hours a day by ringing the doorbell of the reception. The rooms belong to big flats, one in each floor. The flats are locked, but not the rooms! So, be sure to get one flat, when you're traveling in a big group. Prepare to stay together with other guests in one room, the manager won't leave beds unoccupied to keep the privacy of one group! The beds, kitchen, and bathrooms are clean and there's enough hot water for everyone. The manager is a really nice guy, if you're friendly and discuss problems in an kind way. Close to the hostel, there's a twenty-four-hour McDonalds to have a cheap breakfast or a late snack!

3 Positive things -- confortable beds, clean, and with good transportation access day and night. Negative things -- the guy from the hostel wasn't nice at all. To go to our room we had to pass through another room where people were sleeping, it could be worse if you were the people in the other room. When we arrived they were not expecting us (though we had made a reservation) so the beds weren't made and they gave us the linen for us to do the bed. The common room was the kitchen. The street is not very easy to find even with a map and not very safe. It could be worse but it could be a lot better too!

4 quite good place. close to center (and metro station), shop. car parking is also available -- but beware -- two of our cars were robbed (don't leave nothing inside).

2 I'd definitely stay away next time. But this place is cheap and pretty clean if you are on a strict budget. Upsides -- extremely cheap, relatively clean, spacious rooms for eight people, right near a main metro station (Florenc), can be social (depending on if you get a good floor), Prague is awesome! Downsides -- t ook us three hours to find it, in a random alleyway (nervewracking to come back after dark), one of the staff guys (wears the same thing every day) freaked out at us for ringing the bell -- wasn't sure if we were supposed to use our key before dark and most hostels buzz you in anyways. He was pissed he had to walk down the stairs to get the door -- what a loser. Every bathroom on the floor was broken at one time or another, hot rooms.

5 I stayed in this hostel with my brother in the summer of 2004. I'd never stayed in a hostel before, so i was a little nervous about the experience. However, I had a great time. Ludwig is a really cool, friendly guy who made a special exception for us to stay even though he was pretty much full. It was inexpensive and conveniently located. I definitely intend to stay here again next time I visit Prague.

1 Where do we start...? Although centrally located, this hostel did not live up to expectations. We arrived expecting a six-bed dorm but were surprised to find that another eight guests had to walk through our room to get to theirs!! On top of this, the staff can walk in and out of the room whenever they please. We didn't feel unsafe but the staff did tend to move our belongings without any permission or notice. As for cleanliness, it's a nice place for bugs to live — as they did (in the beds, on the walls, etc.). Clean sheets...doubtful! The bathrooms were rank! In general, this is a dingy hostel that we do not advise you visit.

1 If I could I would rate this hostel minus 4 stars. Ludwig (the landlord) took us out for a pint and diner and he expected us to pay for his food, which he would pick up a commission on. The hostel was rather poor; the showers were constantly out of order, etc. Ludwig moaned when we came in late and when we rung the bell because we only had two keys between the seven of us (we weren't attached at the hip).

1 This hostel was cheap but every guest doesn't receive a key. We had two keys between seven people. The showers were out of order most of the time, and with only two showers for about 35 to 40 people it proved to be a problem. The landlord, Ludwig, took us to all the local places so he could receive a commission. I do not rate this hostel at all. The Hilton hotel is only around the corner! Ludwig was constantly moaning at us for coming in late! It was a lad's holiday, for God's sake!

3 We had a lot of fun in this hostel. The owner is a very talkative and nice person, who informed us about everything you should know about Prague and the cheapest places for eating and drinking in the city. The hostel is clean and there's no curfew at all. It's true that you cannot lock your room, but that's no problem. They have never had a theft in the whole history of the hostel. We had two complete bathrooms and one simple bath with toilet and sink. The place is really near the city center (a ten-minute walk) and it has a very nice price!

3 Every guest does NOT receive a key. We got two keys for six people. The hostel is very clean and looks very new; however, the hostel staff informs you that you cannot lock your door. Ludwig (the owner) told us straight away that it is an "open" hostel. Very odd and scary. There's only one bathroom per 25 people or so.
