The Hostelz.com Review
Hostel Hvoll is an old farm house on the side of a lake. The nearest town is Kirkjubaejurklaustur, 23 kilometres away. The bus stops on route 1, and if you call them before hand, staff will meet you there and drive you back when you depart for ISK100.

The layout of the hostel is a little different - with three small buildings containing dorms and kitchens. The oldest building is showing its age, but it was where one of the owners was born so it does lend some authenticity to the atmosphere.

Arctic terns and numerous other birds nest nearby, and there are plenty of options for walking in the surrounding area, but make sure you bring good waterproof walking shoes. There is not much else one can do due to the hostel's isolation - it seems most people drive there and stay overnight as they work their way around national route 1, but if you want a peaceful break, Hvoll is a good choice.

Clean, Peaceful, Great views and birdwatching
A great place for a peaceful stay. There is a tremendous wealth of bird life to study, or if you're not into that, just sit out and admire the view of the Vatnajokull glacier (in Skaftafell National Park). The hostel is extremely clean, modern, and tidy. Rooms can be locked securely. Showers and toilets are spotless.

A good stop on the round Iceland tour. There's nothing to do around here, better bring your own food and beer, but there's a nice yard for throwing the Frisbee before bed. Gorgeous view.
