Guesthouse Hreiğriğ is on the main street of Heimaey, the main island in the Westman Islands and is an easy walk up the hill from the ferry terminal.
Ruth, the owner, is a friendly and enthusiastic host and is full of suggestions of what to do during your stay. Her husband runs the cinema next door which shows films of the 1973 volcanic eruption.
The facilities in the rooms are modern, although the puffin motif is an ever-present reminder that puffins are everywhere on the island. The main puffin colony is to the south of the island, and although it can be a lengthy hike, puffins during the season are everywhere and seeing them is a real highlight to the stay in the islands.
There is a self service kitchen and three smallish supermarkets nearby. There are no hostels on the island but Guesthouse Hreiğriğ offers economical sleeping bag accommodation which is just as good.
