Seydisfjordur hostel's decor is reminiscent of a wooden alpine hut, but it is kept clean. Facilities in the hostel are modern and the common area overlooks the harbour, which is especially nice at night.
Buses stop the tourist centre up the road, about 10 minutes walk away. Seydisfjordur hostel receives many many guests each Wednesday, the day before the Smyril Line ferry heads for the Faroe Islands.
During the summer, especially on Wednesday nights, it is full and they have an arrangement to use the school hall. After walking down the hill from the bus, you need to walk back up poorly gravelled rounds, and around through the town to the school. It is not particularly well labelled, but a school always looks like a school. Security appears rather lax with people coming and going all the time, but it is a relaxed atmosphere. The accommodation is literally a mattress on the floor of a class room, but it does the trick. There are no showers in the school, but guests have free access to the swimming pool (indoor pool, sauna and hot pots) next door. If you're catching the ferry, the school is closer to embarkation than the hostel.
