The Hostelz.com Review
Nuevo Suizo is located in a tiny alley called Azofaifo. This street is not listed on most maps, but it is just off of Calle Sierpes, Seville's main shopping concourse. This area is bustling by day but very quiet at night. It's about a 10 minute walk to the Cathedral and Alcazar tourist area.
The building is a quaint converted house, with none of the institutional feel of some hostels. Rooms are shared and coed, but most have only two to four beds. There are no bunks, however the beds are quite close together, with very little storage space and no lockers. All rooms have air conditioning and television, and many have adjoining bathrooms, which are tidy enough. The bathrooms in the halls are less welcoming. Overall, the house is clean, but cramped and a bit run-down.
Like many buildings in Seville, this one is built to fight heat, which makes it great in the summer, but chilly in the fall and winter. Many rooms are quite cold. Also, noise from the common room/reception area can be heard throughout the building, especially on the first floor. Another potential downside is that with only one key for most rooms, it takes a little bit of coordination with your dorm-mates to make sure no one gets locked in or out.
On the plus side, though, there is no curfew or lockout. The hostel has two free internet computers, and also offers free coffee and tea. Breakfast, linen, and towels are included in the price. Overall, the atmosphere of Nuevo Suizo is friendly and a bit chaotic. There are some definite downsides, such as the chilly, crowded rooms. But Seville is a city with few backpacker's options, and despite its shortcomings, this lively hostel is still a good bet in a good location.

Very noisy! Like the stay but there was a lot of noise day and night. — Eric Knaps , Belgium (2008-03-04)

One of my favourites Skeptical going in, because had heard mixed reviews. Note that my review applies to the double room en-suite. We loved this hostel! One of our favourites in two years of European travel. The thing that is preventing a five-star rating is that the bathroom was falling apart a bit -- the shower door fell off. But it wasn't a huge deal. Free cappuccinos, espressos, hot chocolates, free phone home (long distance!), free internet, breakfast included, nice staff, awesome social rooftop terrace with hammocks -- what more can you ask for? Some may say price may be a few Euros high (not sure of other hostels in the region) but we loved our two-night stay! No regrets at all. Great location, great time, great ambiance, and the rooftop terrace was key because we met some Americans who spoke Spanish, which really allowed us to get under the skin of beautiful Seville! I would not hesitate to stay here again. — Andy , Canada (2007-07-25)
This has been the worst place we have ever been and the most expensive for what they offer! First of all, the photos on internet are not as described. The double room en-suite (supposed to be nice in the photos) was very dirty, there were hair on the floor and in the toilet, the sheets were dirty and the window was broken, so it was not possible to close it during the night. The service was absent! There were people screaming in the middle of the night and nobody said anything. We stayed there five nights and the towels were changed only twice, the second one they gave us a scratched towel -- just awful! The day after we asked the manager for an appropriate service but they didn't even enter in the room! At the end we asked for a partial refund, as we had to pay in advance, but they have not a refund policy and we were just told -- sorry! So, keep in mind our tip -- don't go! — Grace , Irish (2007-05-11)

Even though everything was more than adequate (comparatively in Spain you could do far far worse, and everything was kept as clean as possible here), that most importantly, the people were the best here. Very helpful, you know, with the intangibles. Because when your heart's into backpacking around (and everyone has bad hostel experiences -- go check out the movie for that one), what matters most are the people (hostel staff, renters, local sevillans) -- their politeness, helpfulness, guidance. Really, it would take an enormous cleaning staff to keep Suizo's hostel looking like a Trump suite, but thankfully (during my trip, it must've been) renters chipped in to keep the place just that clean. Maybe they felt like they were returning some good deed done to them. Cool place, go check it out. — Sean (2006-11-17)
I too was disappointed with this hotel. The dorms were cramped, our en-suite was out of action, yep the air conditioning was great in summer but I paid them good money to send me my memory cards which I'd left at a photo shop and I never received them. Plus one of the computers with the free internet were down which meant for hundreds of people and only one computer, there were long lines. Location and staff were good. — Alana (2006-10-24)
We stayed in May 06 and we will never stay there again. To start with, it quite expensive compared to fantastic places we stayed in in other cities. There were some minor things that on their own I would happily lived with, however added up they became a big issue. Run down room. No water pressure and intermittent hot water. Very rude staff. Very noisy and badly working air-con. What I could not live with is air-con dying on the hottest night (it was 41C during at 19:00) when everyone used it and being told by staff "have you tried to open a window?". Total lack of security. Different staff members though they day/night who didn't know who came and went. Luggage left before flight was put in a room totally out of sight of staff but with public access to anyone. The room door having been kicked in at some point and barely locked. Ants crawling around the room (a lot of ants). Sheets covered in (someone else's) blood stains. Bedbugs -- we are currently covered from neck to toe in hideous red itchy rashes. I would never stay there again -- even if they paid us! — Very unhappy customer (2006-05-21)
We've been there on 2 may 2006, during the online reservation I asked for a quiet room. But, this is what our ears registered when we wanted to sleep: at 24h30, the couple next door was talking (there was a door between our rooms, that didn't close well); at 01:30 people were talking very loud in the lobby, the night guard didn't intervene until I asked. When they finally stopped talking, the night guard started typing on his PC keyboard and we heard each keystroke, at 3 a.m., the guard caused continuous whistling paper noise; at about 6 a.m. the someone started washing coffee cups and used the coffee machine quite often, and yes, at 7a.m. other people start waking up causing noise in the tubes and cause breakfast sounds. The breakfast wasn't worth the name -- one simple, small table with four to six seats, one cup with butter another with jam and one toaster. Coffee and orange juce at will. The number of showers/WCs wasn't in a decent ratio with the number of guests. So, stay away there, or if you must be there: surely refuse rooms six and seven, they are one hundred percent next to the reception desk and the most noisy rooms we ever had. The good point: free internet access (but the PC is often occupied). — Kris Buelens (2006-05-08)

Hostel Nuevo Suizo is excellent! The thing that made this hostel excellent is that it is very, very clean. I was surprised that they clean the hallways and everything everyday. I actually stayed at their private rooms, with private baths. But if I only knew how clean the place was, I would have settled for a common bathroom. It is that clean!
The staff were very friendly, too. I forgot the name of the front desk lady, but she really speaks good English, and she gave very good instructions on the places we asked about. She was very accommodating, too, to your needs.
The location was perfect. It is near to everything, especially to shopping. Almost every attraction in Seville is just a few minutes walk away. I also liked their breakfast. Although some people may think it is not enough, for me it was simple yet enough. It was toasted bread with butter and marmalade. Then don't forget to taste their coffee; it was one of the best coffees. This hostel made my stay in Seville worthwhile. I will surely come back to this hostel! — Anonymous (2005-07-29)

A great hostel in a great location. The very friendly and helpful staff, free coffee and tea, and free Internet all day long was just great. I would recommend this hostel to anybody going to Seville. — Anonymous (2005-07-01)
I have stayed in this hostel for the past four nights and I am not so pleased. On the plus side, the location is fairly good, the place is clean, there is a nice common area/lobby, and the coffee is quite good for a hostel. The drawbacks, however, are serious. First, it is overpriced; I paid 20 euros for a bed in a tiny quad, and the dorm next to me had twice as many beds. Also, some of the staff are not very accommodating or friendly. For example, there is a major problem with the kitchen. It is supposed to be a private kitchen that you can use if you ask. Each staff member, however, has a different idea of what this policy entails, so several times I was reprimanded for doing exactly as I had been instructed earlier. The rooms only have a small space heater, so it got quite cold at night. Finally, the shower drain (at least the one I used) is terribly clogged. In conclusion, you would do well to look elsewhere in Sevilla. — Daniel (2005-02-15)

The location is good. The shower was broken when I was there and I had to use the one on the floor above. I had quite a wait (one shower for two floors). The rooms have a TV and good air-conditioning. Overall I would give it average rating. — Mick Winter (2004-11-06)

This hostel was very nice. It was tucked into a tiny little street right off of the main shopping district. It's not very far from all the main sights. The place had a lot of charm, although the bathrooms could have used a little work. This place is not of the highest quality, but definitely a lot better than many other places. There was usually a flood on the floor, but this was due more to the negligence of people who didn't close the curtain properly than a defect in the shower itself. The people were nice, although there were some communication barriers. The free breakfast was a perk, and so were the TVs and air conditioners in the rooms. I enjoyed my stay at this hostel. — Madelyn (2004-08-30)
