HI - YHA London - St Pancras Hostel

Hostelz.com's Review

YHA London St Pancras' location is great, just a few blocks from the underground on a busy avenue. It is pretty safe -- there's a surveillance system and a quite new elevator. Rooms are pretty quiet, there are individual lockers inside the rooms and some more in the basement in case you need to check out and leave your bag there.

Breakfast is great. There's a laundry, kitchen, and TV room. The hostel also has internet access although it's cheaper at McDonald's. The hostel also has an exchange but there's a fee for that, so if you have the chance, exchange your money at Heathrow Airport. The staff is helpful and you can get some assistance there including tour bookings, calling cards, and underground and attraction tickets.

Now the downside -- the bathroom. It was clean although there was no sign of cleaners during our three-day stay). The shower space is really tiny -- you can't get inside and wash your hair properly, because the water flows against the wall. But it's worth it, we would definitely stay again.

Good but a bit old-fashioned rooms
Good stay there. A bit noisy but hey, that's near an international train station. Quite clean, comfort is ok. The living room is nice and bright. However, it's a shame Wi-Fi isn't free for all customers and there's no kitchen. Finally, the rooms would need a good refurbishment. Good overall experience though. Good value for money.

This Place Is As Good As Its Ratings
I was hesitant to stay at this large very commercial hostel. But I stayed here for 2 nights in a 4 bed dorm and really enjoyed it. The rooms and beds were good and it was quiet. Plenty of bathrooms and they were clean. The breakfast was great but the dining area gets really full at peak times. They need larger common areas for such a large hostel. They also need to do a better job at cleaning the carpets in the bedrooms. Security was excellent and the location cannot be beat as you are across the street from a major Metro Tube station and the international train station. I highly recommend this hostel.

Disappointing renovations, NO KITCHEN!
Recent upgrades are disappointing. The YHA has removed the kitchen and eating area so there is nowhere to even make a cup of tea or a sandwich, you have to buy every blessed thing. They have removed the comfy socializing area in reception and put in a smart little wine bar. Can't help feeling that YHA have moved away from their core values, are no longer catering for the independent traveler. I've been coming to this one for years, but not again. Location is good.

First time staying at a hostel, met and exceeded expectations
When I first got into my room late at night, I found the toilet seat broken, and was expecting this to be pretty much the norm and hoping things wouldn't get worse. I was pleasantly surprised that by the next afternoon, the problem had been fixed. Every staff member I encountered was extremely nice, particularly the one who was extremely apologetic about the lack of free WiFi if you weren't a member. The company should offer free WiFi (I write this on free WiFi in a hostel in Paris), but I will not mark the hostel for a decision that was made by people that probably have never been to the st. Pancras YHA. Plus they directed me to the nearby Starbucks for free WiFi.

Nice hospitality
Friendly and helpful staff -- Excellent location for train travelers -- Great value.
We ordered a double bed and got a twin, not exactly great for 67yr old
Every where else in the world Australia/USA/Canada, double means just that -- two people in the same bed. I have hurt my back climbing 4 times a night up straight steps, as you do when you get old. last and not least, old people still have sex -- almost impossible in a single narrow bunk, so our holiday of a lifetime has had a bad start. Not something I will rave about to others.

Great location
I stayed at this hostel in September of 2009 for three nights. It was convenient because it was by Kings Cross Underground station [right across the street].So it did not take long to get there from Heathrow. It was also across the street from St. Pancras train station where the Eurostar train starts. Overall the rooms were clean and comfortable. It was quiet as well, despite being a weekend. By London standards it was affordable, Even compared to other London hostels. If you do go to London may i recommend the City of London Museum. It's great and overlooked by most visitors to London. Basically no problems and an overall positive experience.
Mostly excellent, except for bathrooms
Location, security, air conditioning, and the cleanliness of rooms, lounge and kitchen all deserve 5 stars. However, the state of the bathrooms rate 1 star. The shared bathrooms, at least those on the fifth floor, all have major mold problems. There are no fans, consequently they are constantly wet and steamy. The showers are small and the water hits the wall. Staff must at least check the bathrooms daily though, as there was always ample toilet paper, towels and soap.
