I stayed in this hostel in March 2005. There were three thefts of money --all about 100 Sterling each which is a lot of money. I spoke to the victims of the theft and they said the locks on their safety boxes were picked so it was not an opportunity theft. The place is very unclean also. The staff are friendly and it's central and is a bit of a party place but very unclean and security is a major issue. Apparently the police in Mendoza are aware of a problem here. — Mary - Ireland (2006-03-07)

I stayed here in July, and I thought it was a great place, with really friendly staff and good area to relax. They weren't great on cleaning the rooms each day though, and security was a problem, too.
I had 200 pesos stolen out of my wallet one day while I was on an excursion (organized by the hostel). It was stolen from INSIDE one of the lockers in the room. That day, the room WASN'T cleaned. I was the only person in the room, so I'm reasonably certain that it must have been staff of the hostel, as no one else would have had access to the room key. And the only people who could have possibly seen my combination were staff cleaning the room on a previous day. The staff were not terribly helpful. I kept getting told to come back and talk to someone else. I didn't make a police report. I didn't want to bring the hostel any bad fortune and it wasn't a huge amount of money, but I now wish I had. Others I met up with later subsequently had a similar thing happen to them at the same hostel.
Bottom line ... great people, BUT don't leave any money or valuables in the room at this hostel, even if you lock them away.
Personally, Id stay here again, but if I do I'm gonna be much, much more careful with my stuff. It's sad really, because it's an HI hostel and I had always thought HIs were pretty good about selecting and training their staff, especially on things like honesty. — Elena (2005-08-01)
Ok for a place to crash, but we found it noisy, a little dirty and the staff minimally helpful. However, the location can't be beat and they do have a lot of activities they can hook you up with. Good for a night or two, but look elsewhere if you're going to be having an extended stay. — Alison and Chris (2005-04-18)
