We had a fantastic stay at Lyons Lake Stay. It is spotlessly clean and furnished to a very high standard. It is a beautiful and peaceful location. Cheryl went out of her way to sort out excursions for us and her organic breakfast was delicious. All in all a great place to stay at a very reasonable prices.

A very welcoming and relaxing place to stay.
Wonderful hostess who cannot do enough for you when you are there.
Very clean with all the amenities you would want.
Right next to the lake where you can wander down and have your own bar-b-q
Bikes and canoes are available (at very low hire cost).

We have stayed in a lot of b/ps in the last 12 months,in Queenstown,Wanaka,Te Anu,Timaru,Lake Tekapo,Christchurch,Dunedin,Auckland,Arrowtown,Wellington,Geraldine, Whangerei and Waitomo. In our opinion this offers the poorest value for money. It is overpriced and whilst neat and tidy ,has many disadvantages.
1) The "double"room, for which we paid $76 p.night was about 8' x '7 with no room for luggage, the room is stuffy and you can actually hear "the tinkle"in the toilet ...three rooms away!!.There is no sound proofing and if the room next door(four bunks) was in use, the noise would be terrible. The third guest room is right next to the toilet and shower and would offer the same noise.
2)It is impossible to find, being miles from the town and actually the basement of a house. The "lake view",is from the neighbours driveway. We found many Motels IN Rotorua at similar prices including ensuites, and in one case a kitchen. All had larger rooms.
3)There is little in electronic entertainment, there are no food outlets of note within walking distance,no public transport. The only saving grace is that it IS opposite a lake.
The owner was courteous, the bed and room clean. The surrounding country is very beautiful, and accessable from the location, but is by contrast to MANY other hostels, overpriced!!
