Good hostel, a little cramped though. We stayed here for four nights in July 2008. We arrived late at night (around 9:30 p.m.), and had a little trouble finding the place, which could have been tricky as the reception closed at 11 p.m. Eventually found the place, and checked in. Good internet facilities, three computers in a separate room for privacy. The room itself was a four-bed dorm, a little cramped, but not as bad as some. Toilets and showers were a little basic, but there was always one spare. Kitchen was a little basic as well, six hobs and only four of them worked. Not enough for this size of hostel. Overall opinion was good, but some advice -- book ahead in school holidays! — Jon & Amy , England (2008-08-23)
In many ways this is the worst backpackers in Broome. I'm told it used to be great but it has gone seriously downhill over the past few years, so now the only people who are staying here are long term residents working in the mines or on the buses. Alas, a few people like me always end up having to stay here. A bad mistake, and indeed the Last Resort really is just that (the name is oddly appropriate) -- it is one of the few Hostels in Australia to have lost its YHA accreditation due to the poor state of the facilities. Firstly, because most of the residents are not backpackers but long-termers (and hard-drinking blokes at that) they will rave about it as if it is the best place ever -- however if you are only in Broome for a week or so you will probably not be welcomed. The place has a very rundown feel, with peeling paint, filthy rooms, and bathrooms that -- well, the fact that the bathroom signs were nicked from another place when THAT closed down says it all. The bar is cheaper than some of the places in town -- but the bar at the Kimberley Klub is much better (the bar there is now called Tokyo Joe's after that club in town in turn closed down). There IS free breakfast (well, a free cup of coffee and cornflakes) and there is an ok pool, plus it is cheaper that the three other backpackers in town -- but I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone other than a hairy biker. — Jules , UK (2007-05-10)
this is possibly one of the skankiest hostels ive stayed in so far. felt more like a biker bar than a hostel. every room is filled with long termers that have been there for years and would be better off in a centre for the homeless! the pool is nice when its not surrounded by big drunken groups and rubbish music but aside from that i couldn't wait to leave! one night was too much! oh and the bathrooms stink too -- look like they havent been cleaned in weeks! — nice, my arse!! Nice and funky for backpackers who don't care. Management were pretty unhelpful, despite us complaing of mould in our room (it stunk) and wanting to move rooms (our room was adjacent to bar/eating/kitchen area with shutters that wouldn't close properly). We eventually left and were refused a refund. Nice other travellers though and free breakfast was a bonus. — Ruth and Benno (2006-08-22)

i was there in '93, changed my life. i turned up expecting to stay for a week and made it last twelve. alot of good times happen, a few bad ones. the swimming pool keep me cool, the ladies keep me hot, a nice time had by all. met some people i never want to forget and some i just cant. if i wasnt so old and past it now i would still be there. — the chief (2006-07-30)

It's quality; me and the lads had a class time here. We should have stayed longer but there you go. — the makes (2005-04-21)

Pauly made Broome the best place I stayed in Oz and I've been everywhere. God bless you, Pauly. — Pete from Dublin (2004-12-11)

Best time ever; our Christmas dinner in October was lovely before we all parted our seperate ways. It was the best stay ever--they made us feel like part of a family. — Sally & Laura Evans and Megan (2004-09-08)

This place really changed my life--it's the best hostel with the best people I have ever come across. I first visited when I was driving around Australia in April 2003. It was meant to be a 2 night stop off and turned into 2 weeks and even then I didn't want to leave. After returning to Sydney it was obvious to me I had to go back, which I did this year for 2 months. Broome is descibed as the lady of Australia--it draws you back. The staff are what made me go back to Broome, let alone the hostel. They are friendly, helpful, and encourage you to get involved in activities and make friends (I've never made so many as I have here). They'll do anything for you. To sum it up ('cause I'm rambling), this is the place that makes me wish I wasn't from Sydney. My experiences here have caused me to contemplate moving to Broome, and I have Pauly, Maz, Pumkin, Sue, Paul, Jason and Rhino (I hope that's all of them) to thank for it. — Ricky Martin (2004-08-25)

The Lastie made my Australia! It's simply the best place to go! I was going to go there for two days and I stayed two months!! This is where the love is... and the fun!!! — Giulia (2004-08-13)
I hated this place - cramped rooms and crowds drinking up a storm around the pool until all hours (this is great for some, not my style). The management saw that I wasn't happy, and to their everlasting credit, moved me to their other facilty across the street where I was much happier! — Eric (2004-03-06)

Had a fantastic time. I was only here for ten days but felt at home right away. Not a place to go for relaxation, such a good atmosphere. It was clean, had good cheap meals and a good bar, what more do you need. — Indi (2004-01-15)

I had the best time I had anywhere in Australia. If anyone who was there in March/April 2003 and remembers my ugly mug, give us an email on biff_and_eds_adventure@hotmail.com. I worked for accomodation and food and made some great mates. Hope all the lastie crew are well! all my love biff xx — Biffa (2003-12-01)

Very simple accomodation (basics only), but great party atmosphere. Lot's of international guests in around August/September. Close to shops and nightclubs (walking distance). — Anonymous (2003-07-28)
