The Hostelz.com Review
Many people recommend Shanti Lodge Phuket based on its staff and overall satifaction. The employees are exceptionally friendly and helpful, and they added to the relaxed atmosphere. The family that runs the Shanti is very sweet and they interact with the guests.

The rooms are large, clean and have a Thai vibe. There are dorm rooms but they are not open during low season. There is a squat toilet as well as a modern, Western one. The showers are very cold but cleaned daily. The hostel provides towels as well. There is a large menu which also caters to vegetarians. The food is delicious although a bit pricey. The Shanti rents out motorbikes with helmets for a reasonable price.

The common room is spacious and full of books and usually has a variety of music playing. The pool is a great addition during the heat and has many lounge chairs. There are a few computers, all with internet access. Most things are done by the honour system, including the computers and late night snacks. There is exercise equipment, including a Stairmaster.

The only downfall would be the location. It is a bit of a drive to the nearest beach and about forty-five minutes away from the popular Patong Beach. That being said, it is secluded and nice and quiet, although difficult to find.

Excellent value for money. Very helpful staff and owner (and family). Quality lodging. Fabulous architecture and atmosphere. We were thoroughly spoilt. Can't wait to go again.

We were not even guests at the lodge -- we only ate dinner there but we went three times. Dinner was fantastic (the menu is as long as your arm -- so if you're tired of eating Thai Curry, you have plenty of options) the eating area is beautiful, and the hospitality shown by Kim and her family was amazing. We went on New Years' Eve, and after dinner we were driven down to a beach (in the back of a pickup with Kim's precocious daughter) to celebrate with the family and other guests. New Year's was great -- complete with fireworks, barbecued delicious food, and drinks. Simply amazing. We later went to Shanti in Bangkok, and it was equally impressive.

I was at the Shanti Lodge one year ago. It is one of the most beautiful places I ever have been in. Kim and her husband are doing great.

Absolutely fantastic place. We stayed there about three years ago for one week. Kim, her kids and the staff were amazing. We all had a fantastic time with them. The rooms are massive and beautiful. The food is incredible and the service is so friendly. Anyone going to Phuket would regret not staying with this family at Shanti. I also wonder if they are OK after the Tsunami???

Post tsunami: the Shanti staff were absolutely fantastic and extremely helpful during this very difficult time. I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for the type of "home" you offer to us travelers. I will always come back.

We stayed at Shanti for a week in February 2004. It was the best place we stayed at in Thailand and we tried all kinds of accommodations. Kim and her children really made our stay there. The food was the best we had and we loved the decor of the Shanti. We would never stay anywhere else in Phuket.

We stayed here three years ago. It was the most amazing place ever and the food was just beautiful. We went for three days and ended up staying for two weeks. Has anyone been there recently — since the tsunami? Does anyone know if the family is okay?

The staff and owners gave us such good feelings that we decided to stay in spite of the sad time.

I have stayed here twice now, once for six weeks and the second time for three. Kim is wonderful; you are made to feel part of the family. The kids in my opinion are the best thing since sliced bread and on the subject of food, IT'S AMAZING! The rooms are beautiful, totally clean with really comfy beds! The whole place is a dream! I hope to see it again soon.

The food is fantastic and the staff are just wonderful. The Shanti has excellent amenities, as well as being one of the most child-centered places my family has been to. I would, will and am endorsing it to all my family and friends. (Ps. This is one that needs to be kept a secret.)

We stayed there for a week and had a wonderful, relaxing time. The food and the staff are great! Renting a motorcycle, we were able to make our way around Phuket and see a number of different areas. Location is a good base to see much of the island. I've stopped in quite a few hostels and was sad to leave this place. I had a great time here.

I loved the Shanti Lodge. It has a great atmosphere. You will love the staff and even probably the guests. I wonder if the tsunami affected them? Has anyone heard?

I have stayed in MANY hostels around the world and SHANTI PHUKET is far and away the best. Very friendly, family atmosphere. It was low season, so the only time we didn't spend on excellent excursions arranged by our host we spent with our host. We went on the town, to meals, dancing and such. Fantastic time. Bangkok Shanti is also very highly recommended.

Excellent is the only word I can think of for this guesthouse. The owners are friendly and warm. They made us really feel at home. The style and setting of the place is so relaxing it makes you want to laze around and do nothing.
