The Hostelz.com Review
This hostel is technically in Lisbon, but its relative proximity to the Oriente station, where long-distance trains and buses stop, is the only location advantage. The Oriente metro is the furthest from central town, easily 20-45 minutes from your destination, and the hostel is another 10-15 minutes walking up a small hill through an ugly neighborhood. From the street level of Oriente station, walk towards the Warner Bros. cinema logo, turn left on the street, and go straight along the left sidewalk.

The place isn't labeled by its youth hostel name either - it's a big light grey building labeled "Instituto Portugues da Juventude". You'll get a big, spacious four bed room with nice big closets. There is, however, only one room key to share which is really annoying at a hostel of this size. There are also a number of other programs happening in the building which may be interesting or may be an annoyance. School groups also frequent the hostel. The bathrooms are functional, although not the cleanest, and there is an 11-4 lockout.

Breakfast is very tasty and substantial - bread, cheese, ham, jelly, coffee, and juice. They also have a kitchen, but alcohol isn't allowed and there were hardly any utensils to cook or eat with. If you need to stay near Oriente train station then this place is ok, but otherwise go to the Catalazete/Oeiras hostel if the City Center hostel is full.

1 Awful
The staff were poor, they were not helpful. The location was ok but far from city. the staff like to talk to their friend a lot. sometime i was kept waiting for twenty minutes in the reception. even guys in my room kept complaining.

3 I stayed here for 10 days during Euro 2004. The location for the tournament was perfect, with the expo site on one side and the "old town" on the other. Facilities were fine and the staff were helpful. The only drawback was the lack of security lockers/safe deposit boxes. Other than that, I would stay there again.

3 This place is very far from the Metro station. It's a good place to stay if you just want to sleep.

3 Me and my partner went there this weekend, and it wasn't bad. The showers and rooms are clean, and you can have a hot water shower without having to wait very long. The breakfast was good, but the staff at reception could be much better.
