The Hostelz.com Review
Bahaus Guesthouse is a very nice hostel located close to the Blue Mosque, Aiya Sofia, and the Grand Bazaar. The hostel has a very welcoming environment with a great location for touring Istanbul. The hostel is very easy to find and very close to the tram lines (about a five-minute walk). The ferry station is about a ten-minute walk from the hostel -- from here you can book cruises on the Bosphorous. There is also a taxi stand right in front of the hostel. Airport pick-up and drop off can be arranged through the hostel if needed (for the airport on the European side of Istanbul). The only shuttle to the airport on the Asian side of Istanbul is at 12:30 a.m. Otherwise you have to take a taxi which cost us about 60 Euros. This is the airport from which most of the low cost carriers, including Easy Jet, fly out.
The facilities at this hostel include a lovely roof-top terrace where great Turkish cuisine can be enjoyed every evening. There is a large common area where breakfast is served. There is free internet and a library. The dorm rooms are nice with individual lockers in which to store your bags. The bathrooms are clean, but frequently busy, as there are only about six toilets in the whole hostel.
This hostel has the best of both worlds. During our stay the hostel was full but never noisy or crowded. There are many areas within the hostel where you can find a quiet place to sit and read a book, or find a group of travelers to sit and socialize with. This hostel caters to a wide variety of travelers -- everyone is welcome. During our stay, there was a family staying (three children all over the age of fourteen), as well as a couple in their sixties. There are also many traditional backpackers who stay here. There are people from all over the world, and it is a great atmosphere to learn about other people and their travels.
The beds and rooms are very comfortable. The hostel is located on a quiet street in Istanbul, and it is very quiet at night. There are staff working twenty-four hours a day and they ensure that there is not a lot of noise after 11 p.m.
The hostel is a good value for money, and the cost includes breakfast. When you check in, you are expected to pay for your full stay up front, with no refunds offered. Book in advance, as this is a very popular hostel and was full during the entire week of our stay. There were travelers sleeping on the roof terrace, so this is another option, should all the beds be full.
The hostel offers many services including a walking tour of Istanbul. The staff at the hostel is very helpful and friendly. We would highly recommend this hostel.

Great for travelers looking to bond with locals/meet fellow travelers The triple room was small, yet more than sufficient for my trip with my friends. The staff and activities planned were the best part of the experience. Each night was something new to explore the city and converse with other guests. The owner was super helpful in booking our stay in Istanbul and at the sister hostel in Dalyan. I truly enjoyed my time at Bahaus and was sad to leave it! — Allie N , USA (2011-10-19)

Best time of our lives We arrived in Istanbul in the dark, and were dropped off by our shuttle on the corner, Eduardo, one of the guys working at the hostel, picked up on our hesitation and asked us if we were looking for Bahaus. From the word go we were invited in like family by the staff of Bahaus. While our private triple was a little tight on space, it was all we needed! The atmosphere at Bahaus is incredible and we met so many amazing friends. They do a great job of setting up a very comfortable, fun environment for the guests to socialize in. Every day we head off on our adventures and every evening all the guests tended to migrate towards the terrace (with absolutely gorgeous views) or the breakfast room when the weather was bad. We shared tales and drinks till the early hours, often being reminded by the staff to quieten down. Bahaus had a great mix where they allowed fun social hour, but were mindful of the guests who were sleeping and reminded the slightly more rambunctious of that as well. Bahaus is also in a fantastic location. We walked everywhere we wanted to go within 15 minutes, the street above Bahaus also has tons of restaurants and bars. You barely need to make an effort to do and see it all. Bahaus also had great events, every day when we got home we would check out the board. They helped the guests schedule tours, the shuttles and even bar crawl nights. With the tours Tony told us they had done their research and just had the best of the tours in terms of information and price displayed in their hostel. We spoke it over and without even asking Tony offered to call and set it up. It was a very special trip for us all. Bahaus made everything SO easy, fun and carefree. We will DEFINITELY be back! If you're looking for a hostel with a great atmosphere, amazing staff and memories of a lifetime this is it! — Cole B , USA (2011-10-19)
Bedbugs BEDBUGS ! My 17 people group stayed at Bahaus for 7 nights. One morning we awoke to fınd our arms, legs and back bitten all over. The other people in my dorm were also complainıng of bites and on inspection of the walls and mattresses we found around 10 bloated bedbugs. I was eventually moved to a top floor room which was also infested (like all others). The manager deceived us by forcing us to pay at our check-in and refused to pay us back. Of course the owner coudn't be contacted. — Anonymous , france (2011-09-27)

Great place overall, but don't get screwed The hostel is well kept and well located to see the sights in Turkey. Don't stay in the four-bed room on the third floor -- it's hotter than a sauna and there's no AC. Also, when you pay upon arrival, be on your toes to make sure they don't try to cheat you by converting money twice. There is a very nice terrace and lounge. — John , Australia (2007-08-30)

Place was pretty freakin awesome. Good atmosphere and friendly staff, even if all of them didn't speak english. Had a blast and would stay there again willingly. — Kat (2006-12-30)

Great location, good food at backpackers budgets, and very friendly staff. Would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone. — trudy (2006-10-08)

Great location. Within walking distance to all sights and places to eat. I received wam hospitality during my stay in Bahaus. The staff is very friendly and accommodating to come up with my special request for one veggie dinner set. I really enjoy my stay at Bahaus. — Dinah from Kuala Lumpur (2006-10-04)

Great location, close to all the ameneties and is definitely value for money accomocation. The whole place needs updating but the rooms are clean and the staff honest, helpful and freindly. The rooftop bar has amazing views across the bosphorus. — Sam and Iain, Scotland (2005-09-04)
The owner is a horrible human being who is in this business for the money and, I think, to argue with people. The rest of his staff are nice but who cares when the owner is this awful? He loses his temper over everything — screams at you if you ask for a discount... absolute nut case. He's ruining his own business. He doesn't deserve your business (nor mine, so we split after one night and three arguments about it). — Jenn (2005-06-20)

Bahaus is a great hostel. The rooms are clean, the staff are always friendly and helpful, and the common area/bar is a comfortable retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city. We were also very impressed that they serve inexpensive food, made with hormone-free, natural products. Bahaus is one of the few places that actually feels like a home away from home. — Julie and Martin from Germany (2005-04-10)

This hostel is really amazing. The location is beautiful and it's near the most famous buildings (Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, Grand Bazaar, etc.). And the people are very friendly. Also the food is very great and it's cheap. So all I can say is: "EXCELLENT." Nice greetings to the crew!!! — Peter from Germany (2005-03-17)

I can't rate this place highly enough. Nice atmosphere, cosy, clean, and great location. The staff really go out of their way to help. I'll be back... — Scott, UK (2005-03-04)
