I came in to this hostel for my first day of stay in New Zealand. There is a free shuttle that takes you to the hostel from the airport. Once you arrive at the Auckland International Airport, go straight to the visitor i-site (you can't miss it, right behind McDonalds), ask the staff for the number to dial on the freephone (for Kiwi International hostel). The freephones are found in the Visitors I-site. However, please do take a special note that Kiwi International hostel and Kiwi International Hotel has separate freephone numbers to call so make sure you call the right one. Dial the number, the staff at the hostel will ask how many passengers will be boarding the shuttle. The staff will then tell you to wait outside the airport for the shuttle pick-up. The shuttle comes to the airport in about fifteen to twenty minutes. I had a ladies hostels room. I paid approx. $30 for a night's stay. It was furnished with a king-sized bed, a single bed, and a bunk bed. It had a en-suite bathroom and the showers are real hot and nice. Internet cost $2 or 3 per hour. Walk down about one hundred to one-hundred-fifty metres from the hostel -- you can find a cafe and a Indian supermarket. Just nearby from the hostel, there is a cemetery. Well, it is worth a visit if you have nothing to do. And don't worry, it isn't scary at all. Overall, i find this hostel a great place to stay for a short transit and some killing of jet lag or a place to reflect about your travels before you leave New Zealand.

I came to the Kiwi International Airport Hostel last year at the end of June as I began my 5 month study abroad experience in NZ. This hostel was very welcoming and receptive and assisted me in contacting Auckland Airport for luggage updates. The restaurant was decent and the service was immaculate. The rooms were tidy and well kept and the bathroom (ensuite to the 4 bedroom room) was clean. The shuttle service to the airport the next morning was punctual and efficient, getting to the terminals in 10 minutes.
If you are arriving in NZ after a long flight and are staying in Auckland only for a stopover, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this place. However, if you plan on staying in Auckland for a while to take in the sights and sounds, I would recommend you stay closer to the Central Business District. The airport is a good 20 km south of the CBD, and a taxi would be rather expensive.
