For the variety of hostels in Campeche, Hostel del Pirata may not be the wisest choice. To begin with, it's located a bit far from the center but not within walking distance of the first class bus station, you'll find yourself walking more than necessary.
The rooms in the Pirate Hostel are poorly ventilated making them miserably hot. Even when it's jacket weather outside, the rooms remain really hot (however there are lawn chairs on the roof that you could sleep on). In addition, the bathrooms are not terribly clean (not terribly dirty either). During our review stay there were a variety of animals in the room we stayed in, including lizards and flees. The showers are tiny and don't have anywhere to hang your towel or clothes, and since the dorms are mixed and have glass doors facing high-traffic areas, it's quite hard to change clothes.
The kitchen is outside and well stocked, but there is no oven and the stove is just a double hotplate. There is no internet or laundry, even though they advertise as having it.
Breakfast is included and consists of pre-toasted toast, jelly, and instant coffee/tea. The staff is not very helpful, and the hostel charges a lot for luggage storage and use of anything after the checkout time.
The atmosphere seems a bit sterile, but they do have a beautiful terrace and a wonderful view. There may not be any pirates running around, but in the evening you can catch a view of sword fighting show going on atop one of the nearby towers.
