A real atmosphere!
Pirates Backpackers is a wonderful place where you feel like at home. The crew is friendly, very nice, and always available. It's a safe place, well situated in Fremantle, very clean, rooms are comfortable. A lot of activities are organised by the crew (parties for example) and you have all the equipment you have at home (TV, equipment to cook, internet, laundry). The two cats are so cute too. I spent there a month and a half, and I've not seen the time running. I really advise you to stay there. You won't regret it. Pirates Backpackers is the sunshine of Fremantle.

This is an amazing place. I, like so many others, came to stay for three days and ended up staying much longer. It really is like a home away from home. If I could stay longer I would have. The owner and staff were always there organising activities and it was the only place in Australia I stayed where the owner knew everyone's name and introduced everyone.

Very noisy at night, dangerous bedbugs. If you have a job this is not a good place to stay!

This was my second stay at Pirates (I had a great stay in 2004). This time I experienced terrible bedbug bites on my wrist, ankles, legs, and arms. When I showed management the bites and suggested the room should be fumigated, their solution was giving me some personal insect repellent. I was disappointed appropriate action was not taken and that my obvious distress and irritation was ignored.

That is not a hostel, that is a home! We just wanted to stay a few days but we ended up staying here for nearly two month. And we had our best time in our trip in Australia! Thanks to everyone who gave us this unforgettable time.

This place really surprised me as i wasn't expecting much, but it was one of the best hostels i stayed at in Oz. Its very homely, has a great backyard, brilliant movie selection. 2 lovely cats and the staff were great. Its more like a B & B but with shared rooms. The only downer for me was that i was only in Freo for the weekend, i would have liked to stay here a bit longer!

Whilst travelling with a friend in Oz, I came across this friendly and unique hostel. The atmosphere was amazing, great staff and a totally welcoming feel. I was invited back to one of the many bbqs they hold for their ever growing backpackers and although slightly hungover from the night before and not really knowing what to expect, they took me under their wing and we all had a fantastic time. They introduced me to Australian football and although not a huge fan would recommend to anyone. This was my favorite hostel by far, if not for the building itself but for the people it holds. Big love to everyone. 5*s doesnt do you justice. G-string Kathy :)

After reading all these comments I was expecting this hostel to be good, but instead it turned out to be awesome! Friendly staff, always willing to help anyone out, very laid back. The facilities are excellent, rooms are impeccably clean and the wide array of friendly people you will meet more than makes up for the fact that all the pubs in Freo close at like 10 p.m. and the supermarkets close at 6. Never felt so at home away from home before.

This is the nice place to stay in town, small very clean, very warm and friendly, with popcorn, beanbags, videos, hammocks, free barbecue facilities, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and two pet cats (Dave is technically a snow leopard). Ceefa is a bit of a princess and often replies if you meow to her, and they are both really affectionate. It's located right in the middle of Freo. Forget Perth, Freo's got a beautiful arty feel through the week and as much nightlife as you'll want on the weekends. I know you'll love this place...I do.

Pirates Backpackers is a fantastic hostel. The atmosphere is warm, friendly and fun. It has a great location, as it's close to the cafes, pubs and clubs. The bathrooms are top-notch and really clean. The rooms are clean, cozy and you even get your own locker and key to keep your bags safe. A lot of effort must have gone into this hostel, from the beautiful paint schemes to the very social courtyard. The staff are a very friendly bunch who can offer heaps of info on both Fremantle and places to see in Western Australia. The office has lots of info on tours and the staff can book tours for you. Quite regularly at night, they make popcorn and give it out for free to everyone watching movies in the TV room. Trevor usually bakes a cake at night, then shares it around with everyone. His chocolate cakes would rival even the world's best pastry chefs. I really enjoyed staying at this hostel and met heaps of great people there. I would definitely recommend this hostel.

We came here after we couldn't find anywhere else. Now it would be the first place we would go. The guys on the desk are great, the rooms are cozy, (check out the twins room when the lights are out). The kitchen is clean, the backyard is chilled out and the barbies (barbecues) are wild. The hostel is in the center of town, with the bars and cafes a few yards away. What more do you bloody want?!! Oh yeah the unisex toilets and showers are a nice touch.

I really love the Pirates! I came here for my holiday, and I had the best time! The people staying here, the staff, Freo [Fremantle], Rottnest (Russ) — it all added up to a perfect stay! This Christmas was one I'll never forget, and I will come back to this place for sure! For anyone travelling in Western Australia, this is the place to be! It's close to clubs, beach, shops, restaurants, the market, and pubs (Fast Eddy's has hamburgers 24-7!). You'll get a 10 percent discount at the bottle shop if you show your Pirates key! The vibe in the hostel is so relaxed, with co-ed toilets and showers. We even got to make a list of all the best movies we could think of, and they bought them all! 10 out of 10 for the Pirates!

This place is absolutely fantastic and extremely well run. Facilities are superb — spotless and all brand new, and the bathrooms feel like home. The owners are so friendly and helpful — a very refreshing change. Great location — I can't recommend this place highly enough. BRILLIANT!!!

The Pirates are brilliant! They have recently been taken over and the hostel is now family-run. It's been recently renovated, and the rooms and bathrooms are immaculate. But apart from this being a clean and very cool and colorful place to stay are the guys who make it this way. Bruce, Alex and Trevor make the place so welcoming and just like home — they are all fantastic!!! While the renovations were going on we had free breakfast, lunch and dinner, including beers provided. Plus this Christmas we are all having loads of food and alcohol, too! It's the best place I have stayed at for everything!! If you are looking for place to stay, come here! I have another nine months left in Australia and I will be telling everyone on my travels that this is such a great place to stay!! "PIRATES" rule!!
