Homelike hostel I liked the pirates a lot. it has been like a second home for me. it might not be the cleanest hostel but it is cozy and there are always friendly people around. the staff depends some are nice and some are ignorant. when vaughn was around he was always interested and he would never ignore you. — Posti , german (2011-03-30)

Brilliant little hostel Booked in for just 3 days but ended up staying for 2 weeks. We just loved the place. We had a brilliant time. Everybody has been so friendly and looked after us. Could be a little quiet at times with many people seem to be working. The place was clean, although some people were a bit messy with their clothes on the floor. The courtyard is excellent and we spent most of our time there. We recommend this brilliant little hostel to everyone. — Bek , Canada (2011-03-05)

Pirates Backpackers -- there is no better way to stay! Since 2007 I'm a regular guest. The great location in Fremantle (just footsteps away from the world-famous cappuccino strip, shops, and pubs), the always friendly Pirates Crew, and specially the amazing activities perfect organized by the owner Vaughan (boat trips, camping, surfing lessons, parties) made me stay there almost 1 year instead my planned 3 days. And I wasnt the only long-term guest!! Its never getting boring, it feels like living in 1 big family. Its more than a hostel its like a shared house. Cant wait to go there again!! — Jen , Germany (2010-12-30)

In the top 3 hostels! I spent the best few weeks I've ever had at Pirates. It definitely rates as one of my top 3 hostels of all time! It's small and very relaxed. It made it so easy to meet some amazing people and I had some amazing/funny/interesting/awkward/relaxing/memorable experiences. Cool staff, a very funny cat that loves lying on it's back, and lots to do. Highly recommend this place! — Anonymous , England (2010-12-26)
10 Not happy, was charged $20 for one night only to be told in the morning by the very arrogant guy/receptionist that I would have to pay another $5 or to pack my bags in those words, so i did i couldn't wait to get out of their, the lady who checked me in was great and professional though but be warned their is some serious need for more organization from this place and manners from the d*ck head who wanted another $5 I had plenty of $$$ but no patience to put up with arrogance. — Anonymous , Australian (2010-12-14)

Pirates is like a home. I am a girl traveling by myself. When I came to Pirates Backpackers I just wanted to stay for one weekend and ended up staying almost one month. I could easily have stayed for some more weeks but unfortunately it was not possible to rebook my flight. I really felt like home and all the lovely people I met here were like a family to me. Nice BBQ's, nice music and lots of funny evenings, in the hostel or going out. The staff are so good and the owner is always there doing lots of fun things and taking us out. In fact, I am amazed how the owner knows everyone's name. I have never seen that before. This is one hostel I want to come back to. — janin , Germany (2010-11-21)

Very Friendly I had a great time, planned a couple of days, ended up 3 weeks staying there. Will definitely come back. Has a creative / friendly attitude that distinguishes from other hostels. — Monique , NL (2010-11-08)

A real atmosphere! Pirates Backpackers is a wonderful place where you feel like at home. The crew is friendly, very nice, and always available. It's a safe place, well situated in Fremantle, very clean, rooms are comfortable. A lot of activities are organised by the crew (parties for example) and you have all the equipment you have at home (TV, equipment to cook, internet, laundry). The two cats are so cute too. I spent there a month and a half, and I've not seen the time running. I really advise you to stay there. You won't regret it. Pirates Backpackers is the sunshine of Fremantle. — Tony , France (2007-08-23)

This is an amazing place. I, like so many others, came to stay for three days and ended up staying much longer. It really is like a home away from home. If I could stay longer I would have. The owner and staff were always there organising activities and it was the only place in Australia I stayed where the owner knew everyone's name and introduced everyone. — Linda (2007-02-28)
Very noisy at night, dangerous bedbugs. If you have a job this is not a good place to stay! — Como (2007-01-26)
This was my second stay at Pirates (I had a great stay in 2004). This time I experienced terrible bedbug bites on my wrist, ankles, legs, and arms. When I showed management the bites and suggested the room should be fumigated, their solution was giving me some personal insect repellent. I was disappointed appropriate action was not taken and that my obvious distress and irritation was ignored. — Kate Hutson (2007-01-23)

I just loved it! The best backpacker I have ever been! — Rebecca Kühnel (2006-11-21)

That is not a hostel, that is a home! We just wanted to stay a few days but we ended up staying here for nearly two month. And we had our best time in our trip in Australia! Thanks to everyone who gave us this unforgettable time. — Jule (2006-08-08)

This place really surprised me as i wasn't expecting much, but it was one of the best hostels i stayed at in Oz. Its very homely, has a great backyard, brilliant movie selection. 2 lovely cats and the staff were great. Its more like a B & B but with shared rooms. The only downer for me was that i was only in Freo for the weekend, i would have liked to stay here a bit longer! — CARL (England) (2006-02-13)

Whilst travelling with a friend in Oz, I came across this friendly and unique hostel. The atmosphere was amazing, great staff and a totally welcoming feel. I was invited back to one of the many bbqs they hold for their ever growing backpackers and although slightly hungover from the night before and not really knowing what to expect, they took me under their wing and we all had a fantastic time. They introduced me to Australian football and although not a huge fan would recommend to anyone. This was my favorite hostel by far, if not for the building itself but for the people it holds. Big love to everyone. 5*s doesnt do you justice. G-string Kathy :) — Katy (2006-02-10)
