The Hostelz.com Review
Andu Lodge is situated in the midst of the spectacular Flinders Ranges in Quorn, South Australia, and is an ideal central location for exploring much of the fascinating history and natural wonders of the area. The lodge itself has a homey feel to it, with older yet comfortable facilities, making the visitor feel welcome.
The Location
Finding Andu Lodge is simple and parking is easy, as the streets in this small town are quiet and there is no traffic problem. The lodge is within easy walking distance of the various local attractions in Quorn. The other guests appear to be nice, friendly people, and some are from overseas -- it is a great place to be able to relax and get to know fellow "adventurers."
The area appears to be peaceful and quiet. The lodge itself gets a little noisy -- though not in an unpleasant way -- when there are a lot of people staying there (but isn't anywhere?). However, it has the advantage of having sections that can be shut off, so that you can be in a quieter area if you wish. Sleeping rooms are also sort of sectioned-in areas, so it's not a problem for different groups to use at the same time. The kitchen and dining hall area is more or less separate from the sleeping areas, so noise in this area won't disturb those wanting an early night -- but consideration for the owners, whose residence adjoins the kitchen/dining area, should be taken into account.
Rooms and Bathrooms
There are a number of sleeping rooms, including those offering accommodation for two people, family facilities with double bed and bunks, and several rooms with various numbers of bunk beds catering to small and large groups. The mattresses are comfortable, and clean attractive linen and quilts are available for a small fee. Some of the rooms have locks, and cupboard space or shelves. The majority of the bunks have good space between the bottom and top bed, to allow for easy sitting without head bumping!
Andu Lodge has individual toilet and shower facilities (three of each) situated at various points throughout the accommodations. Hot water seems to be taxed a little when the facilities are heavily occupied, but appears to cope ok when there is a group of about twenty (as there were during our stay). In general the bathrooms have plenty of room and full facilities, such as a shower with good pressure, a bathtub, and a basin. There is plenty of room to dress and keep your clothes out of the shower spray, as they have mostly full-sized bathrooms.
Common Spaces
There is a large kitchen, with ample meal preparation facilities including two fridges; two ovens/stovetops; a microwave; kettle; urn; toaster; and various pots, pans and cooking implements, as well as crockery and cutlery. Unless you need something specialised, you probably don't need to bring anything in the way of cooking utensils -- however, a sharp knife could be handy, as those supplied are a little blunt. Breakfast provisions such as a choice of cereals, milk, bread, spreads, tea, and coffee facilities, are included in accommodation costs.
Adjoining the kitchen is a large dining hall, with tables, chairs, lounge furniture, piano, free pinball machine, and game machine. There is a servery hutch also, between the kitchen and dining area. An attractive, comfy TV/video room is also available, with lots of relaxing lounge chairs, where you can enjoy watching television or a selection of videos. A very popular area of Andu Lodge is the "Pool Room" with its set up for Eight-Ball. This provides hours of fun for the guests staying at the Lodge!
The gardens around the building are pleasant and there is a BBQ area out the back. The building is surrounded by shady verandas which would be much appreciated in warmer times, and provide shelter from light rains as guests make their way to different areas of the Lodge. Some communal areas of the Lodge are climate-controlled, although not the bedrooms.
Summary
Andu Lodge is a great place with a wonderful atmosphere and we recommend it to anyone who appreciates country hospitality. It's neither the fanciest place to stay, nor the most modern, but it is clean and comfortable and provides the basics you need in a base point for your exploration of the area.

i worked here for a week in november 2005 and really enjoyed it. the hostel is basic but comfortable and the communal areas are great. — seimunch (2006-07-18)

The owners/staff are very friendly and hospitable. The bed I had was comfortable, and I always appreciate a hostel with a selection of books. They don't try to make more out of their hostel than there is. Quorn is a small town, and lots of tours pass through. It's a great place! — Bob (2006-04-06)

Andu Lodge really made my holiday. The people are friendly and the place is clean. What more could you ask for!!
Steve and Paula are so friendly and helpful. They are the perfect couple for the job. I am so grateful for how they have treated me. Andu Lodge is just like a home away from home!!! Thank you so much, Paula and Steve. You're the greatest!!! — Jessie lee (2005-04-18)

This hostel is very clean and tidy. The manager is very friendly and cannot do enough for you. If you are staying in summer there are no fans in the room and no air-conditioning, so it can get a little stuffy at times. It can be a little noisy at night, but then what hostel is quiet? There are not really enough showers, either. If you are in a group, get up early!! — Anonymous (2005-02-12)

Great friendly place to stay!!! And it's in such a beautiful area. Make sure you stay for a while and take the time to really check it out!! — Georgia (2004-11-15)
