Montgomery's (Monty's) is a great hostel! The location couldn't be any better. It is one block from the Elizabeth Street Pier, which has a gorgeous harbor full of amazing ships and great fish and chip eateries.
Monty's is about a four-minute walk from the famous Salamanaca Market on Saturdays. It is one block away from a major bus stop where many local bus routes stop. It is one block from many different ATMs and about one or two blocks from a large shopping mall. There are plenty of bars in the area, including the bar directly next door to Monty's. We stayed at Monty's for four nights and for two out of the four nights there were police cars at the bar because of bad bar fights. We'd recommend other bars in the area, although there is a good selection of karaoke there.
The kitchen in Monty's is pretty good. Most other backpackers do a good job of cleaning up after themselves, but even then, the cleaning crew makes sure the kitchen is spotless each morning. A huge downside to Monty's is that there isn't an elevator (which is especially tough for people staying on the third floor and dragging your luggage up three flights of steep stairs).
The third floor has plenty of private bathrooms. We never had to wait in line to use a toilet or a shower. The rooms are large enough for the amount of people in each room. Sometimes it feels like the room is colder than the temperature outside, but there is an adequate heating system once it finally kicks in. It can get loud at night from the bar next door and the traffic on the street corner if you have your window open, but the windows have good enough insulation that if you close them, it drowns out all the noise.
There isn't really a TV lounge at Monty's. There is a TV in the room where the reception desk is, but it's not convenient to watch TV or movies there. Also, the internet was not working at Monty's and we didn't even notice any computers, so the staff just refers you to a local internet cafe. Overall a pretty good hostel to stay at, where you will meet a lot of nice backpackers from all over the world!
