The Hostelz.com Review
Travellers Palm Homestay is actually a guesthouse, not a hostel. The place is clean but has a lot of humidity in the walls. The staff are very helpful. The location of the guesthouse does not look that nice.
The Location
The guesthouse is located in Golden Triangle -- the area is packed with hotels, hostels and guesthouses. It is very close to Puduraya bus station, and if you arrive to KLCC, you can cross the street to catch the monorail that will leave you only a few blocks away. It is located about a kilometer away from the Petronas Towers, and there are tons of food places around where you can eat. The guesthouse is located on a side street, which looks a bit dodgy at night, but according to the staff it is quite safe though it is a bit dark if you come back late at night.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The rooms are quite humid, with wet walls and very poor air circulation. They each have an air conditioner that you are only allowed to turn on between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. There are a few rooms that do not have windows and the walls are in an awful state. The bathrooms are not on their best -- a bit dirty and not working properly. There is, however, hot water available all day for showers.
Common Spaces
There is a living room with a few couches and computer with internet to use. As it is a guesthouse, there is no kitchen and you are not allowed to bring take-away food inside of the house (although you are welcome to eat it in the front garden outside). You are not allowed to wear shoes or flip flops inside the house, and smoking is allowed outside only. There is only one chair for having breakfast, which is provided by the guesthouse from 7 to 11 a.m. They will do your laundry for a fee.
Summary
The staff are really helpful and very friendly, but the place does not look at all like the picture they have on their website. The rooms are clean but they are very humid, and the air is not very fresh because of that. The place does have a homey feeling and they do make you feel welcome, which compensates for the rest.

A disgusting, uninhabitable hovel very friendly staff, but that is all this place has going for it. The rooms have a pungent smell which really knocks you as enter. (Incidentally this smell leeched into our packs and clothes and stayed with us for about a week -- even after cleaning and airing). The floors are clean but the walls have a lot of water damage due to humidity and lack of air circulation. The real fun begins when you lay down for the night and turn off the light, as an army of well fed bedbugs descends from who knows where. The place is infested with them. Apparently bedbugs give off a pungent odor, so this could possibly be the smell we experienced. After informing the staff of the problem, they seemed to be shocked, noted the seriousness, and they wanted to eradicate the problem immediately. (They knew that a special treatment is required.) But then our room was sprayed with fly spray and immediately rented out to another traveler, so I think they already knew of the problem and are not serious about their guests comfort. I found their response to be very irresponsible as this will spread the bugs to so many other guesthouses. Avoid this place at all costs. — anon , irish (2009-01-09)

I had an overnight stopover in KL and booked Travellers Palm off the website.I arrived late and was a bit worried my room would be gone. Suzy was there to welcome me by name and show me the room which was what I expected in a basic hostel, outside bathroom but beautiful clean towels air con and big bed.
Suzy works very hard to make the hostel as welcoming as any I have stayed in anywhere in the world. She encourages guests to chat and share experiences in a delightful outside courtyard. My plane left at midnight the following night so after a day of looking at KL I returned to pick up my luggage and Suzy told me my room was not taken yet so I could use it (free) and shower and change. when I was ready to leave she told me as it was the end of Ramadan she was cooking for everyone but I was leaving early so she had prepared a meal for me specially. These sort of experiences where you feel like a friend not a customer are priceless when traveling and make this probably the best hostel experience of my life. — Bill Deady (2006-10-26)

I stayed at Travellers Palm both times I visisted Kuala Lumpur. The owner's Suzy and Jo are very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The guesthouse is in a very good location (you can walk to alot of sights), and it is a nice, restfull place to come back to at the end of a busy day. I would stay at Travellers Palm again. — Teresa Brierley (2006-01-08)

We stayed at Traveller's Palm in May of 2005. Suzy, the owner, is very nice and helpful. Definitely one of the more interesting proprietors of a hostel that we've come across in our travels. It was a good thing that she's up until all hours of the night because our bus arrived late and she was there to welcome us around midnight. She also provides a great overview of Kuala Lumpur and will assist you in planning your time there.
There is air-conditioning in the bedrooms, but not in the main room or the bathroom. There's only one toilet and one shower and the place can hold about 15 people at one time. The toilet and shower are separate and clean. But, at the time we were there, there was no sink, anywhere. We paid about 60 Ringits for a double room — which we felt was a bit much, especially after coming from Thailand. However, this seems to be the going price for budget accommodation in Kuala Lumpur.
Overall, I would recommend and return. — Anonymous (2005-07-18)

Our stay at Travellers Palm was good and the staff were very welcoming. It had a friendly atmosphere. The Palm is well located within Kuala Lumpur although it's a little difficult to find on arrival! It was good to meet other travellers like us. I have only one slight negative comment to make, and that is, do not be deceived, like we were, by the pictures – Travellers Palm could do with some TLC! If we pass through Kuala Lumpur again, we would certainly wish to stay at Travellers Palm again! — K and P, England. (2005-01-08)
