The Hostelz.com Review
This is a really fun little hostel with a quirky theme. The rooms each have a different animal theme (from Noah's Ark). There is the Tiger Room, the Zebra room, the Bear Room, the Sheep Room, etc. Inside the room are pictures, posters, murals, and sometimes stuffed toys based on the theme of the given room. The rooms themselves are comfortable and clean and have plenty of space.
The building is old but not rundown. Some renovations are ongoing. The bathrooms and toilets are old but clean. There is a clean kitchen and a comfortable TV lounge. At the back of the hostel there is a pleasant outdoor dining area and chairs.
The hostel has a friendly, fun atmosphere and most travellers seem to enjoy the animal themes. The hostel is a five minute walk from the centre of town, but there isn't a lot to do in Greymouth, so most people are only staying a night or two. The owners are helpful and will happily help arrange activities in the area and onward travel.

This was the nicest hostel by far that we have ever stayed in and also the cheapest. Everything about it was lovely. The rooms were very homely and the kitchen was fab. All the staff were friendly and helpful. — Lesley Condon & Paula Redmond & Gary Mooney (2007-03-16)

This hostel is a great place to stay even if Greymouth isn't a great place to be. The owners are extremely helpful and kind. — Deborah (2007-03-04)

The best part of this hostel was the lounge with the huge fire and the massive cat! Clean, comfortable place to stay with spacious rooms and a sparking clean kitchen. — Maria (2006-08-07)

Nothing to do here at all! We stayed here a night after driving the Arthur's Pass. They tried to put us in a room with a big hole in the window. When we objected, they moved us to the room next door with windows that were practically hanging off! Kitchen very cramped with people fighting over pots and pans! Also used by the Kiwi Experience tour company so full of loud people. Glad we only stayed here a night! — Mark and Debs (2006-07-18)

If you must go to Greymouth, I suppose this is a pretty decent place to stay. There's nothing at all to do in Greymouth, though. — Sarah (2006-07-09)

Excellent hostel! Very cozy with a nice big longe room with a fireplace. The owners were really friendly and always made sure that we had all we needed. All the rooms have different animal themes hence the name "Noah's Ark." — Mich (2006-05-16)

Definitely the best in town. — Geoffrey Glasper (2005-12-19)

I was only here for a night (I stayed in the Tiger Room). It was clean, comfy and funky and in the best part of Greymouth! — Anonymous (2005-02-06)

This is an excellent hostel. It's cozy and has big lounge areas plus good cooking facilities. — Anonymous (2004-09-21)

This is the greatest, most fun place to stay. The kitchen is clean and large and the people are friendly. I spent Christmas there -- partied at the police station and had Christmas Day dinner put on by the town people. Wonderful and full of smiles. — PJ Vincent, Canada (2004-05-05)
