Hostelz.com's Review
Travelers come to Juno Hall Backpackers from all over the world. The hostel is YHA-affiliated, as well as a BBH hostel, so you will get a discount if you carry any of those cards on you.

The Location

The hostel is located about twenty minutes' walk up the main road from central Waitomo; it's a large property with off-street parking available. Waitomo is famous for its Glowworm Caves and most tour operators offer pickups from the hostel. Waitomo only has a small general store, so if you plan on cooking you should bring along your food supplies. A short walk from the hostel you will find a nice walk to a lookout with a view over the area.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The hostel offers a variety of single, double, twin, and share rooms. Share rooms have two bunk beds each. Camping is also possible and you can use the hostel facilities. The rooms all have electric heaters and are spacious and comfy. All bed lines and duvets are provided free. The rooms share common bathrooms, separate for men and women with two toilets and a shower each. At the end of the hallway are additional showers.

Common Spaces

There is a large, open kitchen with two fridges and lots of room to store your bags. All cooking gear is provided and all common areas are cleaned daily. The kitchen opens to the dining area with two large tables, and goes around the corner to the living area, where there are lots of cosy couches and pillows to sit and read or watch TV. There is also a fireplace; however, it wasn't lit while we stayed there. On the outside of the hostel there is a large deck with picnic benches where you can eat your food or enjoy the sun. The hostel has a trampoline outside, as well as a tennis court and a swimming pool with deck chairs you can use for free. There are two computers for internet usage or you can use the Wi-Fi (there is a charge for both). The reception is in one of the corners of the common room and also sells some food and drinks.

Summary

Staff may drop you off at the bus stop in town if you ask in the morning. Some bus operators will drop off and/or pick up directly from the hostel.

YHA Waitomo Juno Hall Reviews from the Web
Hostelz.com Guest Reviews
4   Great place and affordable Was very enjoyable, just minutes away from the cave spelunking. This is well worth the low price and was exactly what we needed for our road trip.  , USA ()
4  Nice smaller hostel, very quiet in the off season anyway. Work available on the surrounding farm if you want it. Only draw backs are the lack of security, no locks on the doors, and no place to keep valuables except in the office strong box that everyone seems to have acess to anyway. And a bit of a long walk on an unsafe road to the nearest village. The shuttle mentioned on the brochure doesn't exist. Friendly staff though, who will quite often give you a lift if they can. Most of them are backpackers themselves.  ()
5  This place is really nice and clean. The couple who run it are friendly, but not in your face. The rooms are clean, the kitchen is well-equipped, and the showers are decent. I recommend this place to anyone stopping off in Waitomo.  ()
4  Nice, friendly place with opportuities for farm work, especially if you can ride horses. Most of the workers are backpackers themselves. It's easy to see why they stayed.  ()
5  Really great, Rebbeca Juno loved it and I loved the dog Lydia.  ()
4  I stayed here in 1999 and 2004. It's a nice place, and it can get very warm when the fire is going. Make sure you keep feeding the fire at night, as the staff leaves you to do it. The pool is great in the summer. A barbeque is available for use, and deer steaks can be bought at the hostel. The only bad point is that there are no door locks or lockers.  ()
5  I stayed here in 1994 and 2001. Lovely location opposite the Waitomo Caves office, surrounded by farm animals and verdant hills. The swimming pool is nice. In 2002 I stayed at the new YHA down in the village, which is considerably more plush, but Juno Hall is fine, particularly if you wish to camp, which you cannot do at the other place.  ()
