The Hostelz.com Review
This is a nice, quiet hostel about 2 kilometres outside of the main part of Waitomo. The bedrooms are clean and simple. There are no locks on the doors. There are no lockers either, but the staff are able to store valuables for you (but with no record of who stored what - this isn't necessarily the safest option either). The toilets are clean and functional.

There are camping facilities available, as well as a swimming pool. The lodge is in a nice area, but a bit isolated if you don't have a car. It's a 15 minute walk to the nearest shops (which is only a general store -- there are no supermarkets in walking distance).

The hostel has a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and the staff can book you on a number of caving and horse back riding activities in the area.

Nice smaller hostel, very quiet in the off season anyway. Work available on the surrounding farm if you want it. Only draw backs are the lack of security, no locks on the doors, and no place to keep valuables except in the office strong box that everyone seems to have acess to anyway. And a bit of a long walk on an unsafe road to the nearest village. The shuttle mentioned on the brochure doesn't exist. Friendly staff though, who will quite often give you a lift if they can. Most of them are backpackers themselves.

This place is really nice and clean. The couple who run it are friendly, but not in your face. The rooms are clean, the kitchen is well-equipped, and the showers are decent. I recommend this place to anyone stopping off in Waitomo.

Nice, friendly place with opportuities for farm work, especially if you can ride horses. Most of the workers are backpackers themselves. It's easy to see why they stayed.

Really great, Rebbeca Juno loved it and I loved the dog Lydia.

I stayed here in 1999 and 2004. It's a nice place, and it can get very warm when the fire is going. Make sure you keep feeding the fire at night, as the staff leaves you to do it. The pool is great in the summer. A barbeque is available for use, and deer steaks can be bought at the hostel. The only bad point is that there are no door locks or lockers.

I stayed here in 1994 and 2001. Lovely location opposite the Waitomo Caves office, surrounded by farm animals and verdant hills. The swimming pool is nice. In 2002 I stayed at the new YHA down in the village, which is considerably more plush, but Juno Hall is fine, particularly if you wish to camp, which you cannot do at the other place.
